The author J.K. Rowling has hired your team of researchers to provide background information and ideas for a series of books she plans to write based on a fictional ancient civilization. Ms. Rowling really needs information on ancient societies and cultures with a focus upon religion, economics and technology.

The following questions will guide your team’s work:

• • How does culture form?

  • What makes a society? What are “its” parts?

  • Why is where important?

  • Why do societies have religions?

Your three person team is made up of economists, anthropologists, political scientists, historians and geographers. They are trained using the ESPRAT+G approach to studying social studies. You will look at the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia and Egypt while also studying the major world religions of Judaism, Islam and Christianity which all started in the land we call the Middle East.
