WHAT ARE GRANULAR MECHANICS?
A granular substance is one that consists of small grains or particles. Granular materials are all around us. We step on dirt, we play in sand, we put powder on our faces. The term "small particles" is also relative to the scale at which the particles are being viewed. Large rocks on Earth or the Moon could be considered granular material as well. Despite the ubiquity of grains in our lives, the science of grains are not well understood. Our team, the G's in MicroG, are here to probe the nature of this science. WHY SHOULD YOU CARE?
Grains are problematic in everyday life and industry. If we better understood the mechanics of granular materials, we wouldn't run into these problems!
