Michele Valsecchi

Postdoctoral Fellow, Department of Economics, University of Gothenburg.
During the Academic year 2016/2017 I am visiting Universitat Pompeu Fabra.

My research focuses on Development Economics and Political Economy with focus on: political institutions; economic institutions; corruption; ethnic diversity; natural resources; migration.

In my job market paper I estimate the effect of politicians' reelection incentives on bureaucrats' corruption behavior using novel data on Indonesian local governments and corruption offences. Besides looking at the reduced form relationship, I explore possible mechanisms based on highly disaggregated data on: i)  local government expenditure; ii) local bureaucrats' promotions and demotions.

I am currently on the job market. I will be available for interviews at the SAEe meeting in Bilbao (15-17 December 2016), RES meeting in London (3-4 January 2017) and at the ASSA meeting in Chicago (6-8 January 2017).

Here you can find my CV.
