Short Bio

I am Michaël Tatham, a Professor at the Department of Comparative Politics at the University of Bergen, Bergen (Norway) and Director of the BA in European Studies (UiB, Norway).

Before moving to Norway, I was Assistant Professor (Wissenschaftlicher Assistent) at the Politics and Public Administration Chair of Professor Michael W. Bauer at the Humboldt University, Berlin (Germany).

From 2006 till 2010, I was a full-time Researcher at the Department of Social and Political Sciences at the European University Institute, Florence (Italy) where my PhD work was supervised by Professors Adrienne Héritier and Michael Keating and funded by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2006-9) and the French Ministry of Education and Research (2009-10).

I had previously studied Political Science in three other European countries. First at the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Grenoble (2000-4), where my work was supervised by Dr. Bruno Cautrès. Then in Germany at the Politik- und Verwaltungswissenschaft department at the Universität Konstanz (2003-4). Finally, I studied European Politics & Society at the Department of Politics & International Relations at the University of Oxford (2004-6) where my work was supervised by Professor Jan Zielonka. I also studied British Civilisation at the Université Stendhal Grenoble III (2000-4) where my work was supervised by Professor Véronique Molinari.

I furthered my methodological training by attending two ECPR summer schools: the Essex Summer School in Social Science Data Analysis (July 2007 & August 2014) and the Ljubljana Summer School in Methods and Techniques (August 2008). I also attended the first EITM Europe Summer Institute held in Mannheim, Germany (June-July 2009). In September 2010 I continued such training thanks to the European Science Foundation by attending a Summer School on R at the University of Bucharest, Romania.
