Clayton Ellis

Clayton graduated from UCSB in 2024 with B.S. degree in Mathematics and Statistics and Data Science before joining the PhD program.  He is interested in Gaussian processes, uncertainty quantification, their applications to physics/chemistry problems, and solving PDEs.

Xinyi Fang

PhD Student in PSTAT, Personal Website

 Xinyi received her bachelor’s degree in Applied and Computational Mathematics in 2019 and her master’s degree in Statistics in 2020, both from the University of Southern California. She then joined the University of California, Santa Barbara, for her PhD program. She is interested in Gaussian processes, machine learning, and their applications.

Blythe King

PhD Student in PSTAT

Blythe joined the Department of Statistics and Applied Probability in 2020. She attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for her undergraduate degree and majored in computer science. She has previously conducted research with the UNC Gillings School of Public Health and the Environmental Protection Agency. She is interested in applications of data science in environmental and biomedical science.

Hyeongseong Lee

PhD Student in PSTAT 

Sean (Hyeongseong) has been a PhD student in the Department of Statistics and Applied Probability since 2021.  Before joining UCSB, he got bachelor and Master’s degree in Statistics from Yonsei University, South Korea. He is interested in the Bayesian optimization, uncertainty quantification, high-dimensional statistics and their applications.

Tong Lin

PhD Student in PSTAT 

Tong has been a PhD student in the Department of Statistics and Applied Probability since 2023.  Before joining UCSB, she got her bachelor’s degree in Economic and Applied Mathematics from East China University of Science and Technology and her master’s degree in Statistical Science from Duke University. She is interested in Gaussian processes, high-dimensional optimization, uncertainty quantification, and their applications.

Yizi Lin

Yizi has been a PhD student in the Department of Statistics and Applied Probability since 2021.  Before joining UCSB, she got her bachelor’s degree in Economic Statistics from Jinan University and master’s degree in Statistical Science from Duke University. She is interested in the Gaussian process, data reduction, spatiotemporal model, and their applications.

Kathryn Lyu

Undergraduate student in the College of Creative Studies

Kathryn's major is mathematics at the College of Creative Studies at UCSB. Her research focuses on advanced sampling methods for estimation and uncertainty quantification, such as Hamiltonian Monte Carlo, affine invariant samplers, Stein variational gradient descent, and diffusion models, as well as their applications.
