Clayton Ellis

PhD Student in PSTAT

Clayton graduated from UCSB in 2024 with B.S. degree in Mathematics and Statistics and Data Science before joining the PhD program.  He is interested in Gaussian processes, uncertainty quantification, their applications to physics/chemistry problems, and solving PDEs.

Hyeongseong Lee

PhD Student in PSTAT 

Sean (Hyeongseong) has been a PhD student in the Department of Statistics and Applied Probability since 2021.  Before joining UCSB, he earned a bachelor's degree and a master’s degree in Statistics from Yonsei University, South Korea. He is interested in Bayesian optimization, uncertainty quantification, high-dimensional statistics, and their applications.

Tong Lin

PhD Student in PSTAT 

Tong has been a PhD student in the Department of Statistics and Applied Probability since 2023.  Before joining UCSB, she got her bachelor’s degree in Economic and Applied Mathematics from East China University of Science and Technology and her master’s degree in Statistical Science from Duke University. She is interested in Gaussian processes, high-dimensional optimization, uncertainty quantification, and their applications.

Yuxi Tan

PhD Student in PSTAT

Yuxi Tan joined the Department of Statistics and Applied Probability in 2024. Before joining UCSB, she earned her bachelor's degree in Statistics from Zhejiang University and her master's degree in Applied Statistics from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Her research interests include Gaussian processes, Bayesian optimization, uncertainty quantification, and applications.

 Yaxuan Wang

PhD Student in PSTAT

Yaxuan Wang has been a PhD student in the Department of Statistics and Applied Probability at UCSB since 2024. Before joining UCSB, she received her bachelor’s degree with First Class Honors and her MPhil degree in Statistics from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Her research interests include time series, Gaussian processes, latent factor models, and uncertainty quantification.

Xiangyu Xie

Xiangyu received his bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from Shanghai Jiaotong University and his master’s degree in Financial Mathematics from Boston University. He is interested in Gaussian processes, uncertainty quantification, and other relevant topics.

Ziran Xu

Ziran has been a PhD student in the Department of Statistics and Applied Probability since 2025.  Before joining UCSB, she earned her bachelor’s degree in Finance with honors from Zhejiang University. She is interested in scalable statistical models, high-dimensional optimization, and uncertainty quantification, with their application in science.

Kathryn Lyu

Undergraduate student in the College of Creative Studies

Kathryn's major is mathematics at the College of Creative Studies at UCSB. Her research focuses on advanced sampling methods for estimation and uncertainty quantification, such as Hamiltonian Monte Carlo, affine invariant samplers, Stein variational gradient descent, and diffusion models, as well as their applications.
