Iron is a highly useful metal and is used almost everywhere. Be it in cars or be it on the railings of your house, iron is used almost everywhere. It is a very common chemical reaction that iron starts to rust when it is exposed to oxygen.

Features of iron oxide powder

This reaction leads to the formation of a complex compound called the iron oxide which is beneficial in several areas. Both the oxygen and iron are highly useful. The chemical composition of iron oxide contains three atoms of iron and almost four atoms of oxygen.

Clearly iron has fine magnetic properties and so has iron oxide but less in magnitude. This is the reason why iron oxide is supposed to posses paramagnetic properties. The nano particles are produced from iron oxide powder itself for the benefit that it can penetrate in areas where the powder is not able to reach.

The paramagnetic property of iron oxide makes it well suited for analyzing the tumor. In MRI or magnetic resonance imaging, a clear image is available if paramagnetic particles are attached to the object. The attaching of the nano particles of iron oxide with the object does not only gives a clear picture of the tumor but also provides the doctor with a better control over the release of therapeutic drugs.

One of the greatest discoveries by Robert Bunsen apart from Bunsen burner is to determine the use of iron oxide powder for removing arsenic from water. Arsenic easily gets dissolved in water and can lead to a number of side effects within the body.

However when we mix iron oxide with arsenic, neither any fluid in the body nor water can break it down which thereby hinders the arsenic from mixing in the water. This discovery resulted in the use of iron oxide particles for filtering the water. It also encouraged many of the other researchers to start their studies on this useful compound.
