M. Hassaballah was born in Qena, Egypt. He received a B.Sc. degree in Mathematics in 1997, then M.Sc. degree in Computer Science in 2003, all from South Valley University, Egypt. His Master’s research was in the area of fractal image compression. From 1997 to 2007, he worked for the Department of Mathematics, South Valley University, Egypt. In April 2008, he joined the lab of Intelligence Communication, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Computer Science, Ehime University, Japan as a PhD student, where he received a Doctor of Engineering (D. Eng.) in Computer Science on September 2011 for his work on facial features detection. His research interests include: computer vision, image processing, facial feature extraction, face detection and recognition, object detection, content-based image retrieval, similarity measures, fractal image compression, and high performance computing.
