Hi there! A warm welcome to my online abode. I’m Moitreya and I hail from the suburbs of Kolkata, India (a.k.a. the City of Joy). Professionally, I am a graduate student in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), IL, USA working under the supervision of Prof. Narendra Ahuja and concern myself with teaching computers to efficiently interpret images, videos, and audio, in order for them to be better at perceiving the environment around them. As part of my PhD program, I collaborate closely with Dr. Anoop Cherian, as well.

Computer algorithms and mathematics have always been topics of my fascination. I take a keen interest in research activities, especially those centered around these themes. While currently I focus on understanding images, videos, and audio but in the past I have looked into other aspects of automated perception as well, which includes speech, verbal behavior analysis (text) and approaches for fusing these multimodal cues.

But saying just that would mean a story that is only half told. I also enjoy reading, traveling, capturing the outside world in digital pixels and listening to music, mostly folk. And my Kolkata-centric upbringing, I guess, implies my epicurean nature as well!
