Metal Detectors in Washington Parks - Guidelines - Use of metal detectors in Washington State Parks
Metal Detecting
Metal detecting is permitted at more than 67 state parks throughout Washington. Users of metal detectors must register first with Washington State Parks and comply with posted regulations. Rules are summarized in “Your Guide to Metal Detecting in Washington State Parks,” available from park rangers or by calling (360) 902-8500; Telephone Device for the Deaf (360) 664-3133.
IMPORTANT MDAW UPDATE: Terry Wright and Ron Sharer met with Senator Tim Sheldon and Don Hoch, Director Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission in January. Terry Wright continued his discussion with State Parks and why most of the parks have had most of the earlier agreed upon areas shut down to metal detecting. The parks dept is now using an algorithm process to determine open areas. Their new formula is changing the acreage open by wide margins. They only have a few done, so PLEASE check the new maps before detecting even in your favorite park - boundaries have changed – many are now CLOSED. 59 maps have now been updated on their website and new reviews have increased areas on some.
Please check out all the new changes on their website: http://parks.state.wa.us/127/Metal-Detecting. There is a new color registration brochure http://parks.state.wa.us/DocumentCenter/View/929 as well. NEW!! ONLINE REGISTRATION IS NOW AVAILABLE
