The Memo Clan is named after Ato Memo, the Grandson of Ato Paktu of Tani group in Arunachal Pradesh, India. Memos had a long history of migration and settling in various places of Arunachal Pradesh, India. Their migration and settlement areas are narrated as follows;
After the death of Ato Paktu at Lot Gii, his sons Tutem, Tume and Tunyik settled at Bomte-Garu. From Bomte-Garu to Pero-Tapo, then to Dari Mukpu. Thereafter they moved to Taktir Dolu (present Padi-Dali area) - Tago Yago (present Pagi village)-Disii-Reri-Pajo- Pushi Gengi-Liidi Miisho-Tumru-Hiya-Jirsi Boshi-Himii-Yorpo-Uutum-Bipiir (Kargo Moyi).
Here, Ato Memo was believed to have been born and grew up. From there they moved to Liidi -Gare Raik (above present Pobdi), then to Lipu. At Lipu above Nyarshii, Ato Mokar, Mona and Mokam were born. Ato Mokar died there. From there, Ato Kardo, Karso and Karlo went to Pobdi - Liib Domuk (present Kabu), parting ways with Mokam and Mona after unitedly defeating the invading Boris.
From there, Doki, Doji, Donyi and Doyor went to Hosha Poglen (present Riigo)-Hishum -Benggor-Paak Hiiko-Yorpo. Here, Ato Doji and Ato Dokar parted ways with Ato Doki, Ato Donyi and Ato Doyor. Thereaftre, Ato Doji and Ato Dokar went down to Doj Moko, below Dimi Putu, then to present Legii-Leyyii area.
Ato Donyi and Doki went on to Doki Yoggo, where Ato Doki had his blacksmithery. From Doki Yoggo to Lutak (present Bumpek Hiidum of Lipu village) - Pigi (Hipi). Here, the Angus and Bagras parted ways. Initially the Angus settled at Dakp Damchi, eastern part of upper Kamru area before proceeding to the present Angu village (Iggo Jego). The Ngomdirs went to Dapo Geko (2-3 km above Jeyi village) and then directly to present Peryii- Honyo.
Now the Memo Clan are settled over a large number of villages in various districts of Arunachal Pradesh viz. West Siang, East Siang, Lower Siang, Papum Pare and Namsai District. However, the larger part of its population is aggregated at West Siang district.
