Hello,
I hope you are enjoying your summer and that your summer classes are going well. I wanted to share a couple of updates with you.
There have been some updates to iRoar this summer. The Registrar's office asked us to share these iRoar Faculty & Staff Training Resources with you. These links point to the Tiger Training system, where you can enroll in short self-paced training courses on each topic.
Zoom has added a new way to add Pronouns to your Zoom profile.
There is a new Blur snapshot feature for IOS device users.
Some issues have been discovered with the new print service called PaperCut. If you are encountering issues or outages, please report these so they can track them and work with the vendor to resolve them.
If there is any training you need or would like to see this summer or fall, please let me know. I will be out of the office starting July 19 returning August 2. If you need help during this time, please reach out to ITHELP@clemson.edu for assistance.
Thanks,
Melissa
Hello,
I hope you all are doing well and enjoying your summer. I wanted to provide you some updates.
👥Zoom was updated recently. The latest version for Macs is 5.7.0 (446). The latest version for Windows is 5.7.1(543). Some new features that may interest you are the ability to share your screen in breakout rooms and participants being able to request live transcript. Verify that you have the latest version installed on your computer.
📝Canvas is moving forward with the New Canvas Quizzes. Clemson Online will begin training people on them this fall. New quizzes will be implemented in Spring 2022. Quizzes do not have to be rebuilt from scratch, there is a Migration Tool that you can use to migrate your quizzes to the new format. Please note Respondus Monitor & Lockdown browser does not work with New Quizzes. So please do not migrate quizzes you may be using for summer classes. This is supposed to be fixed by the Spring 2022 term. I will keep you updated as I learn more.
💻377 classroom podium computers are being replaced across campus this summer. This should not affect how the classrooms function. The new computers are very fast, so this should improve your class startup time.
There is a new Windows operating system coming out. I will update you as we learn more about it.
CCIT is changing the way that computers are inventoried and replaced at Clemson. They will be using a new system called JAMF to manage all IOS and Mac devices. They will be using a new tool called InTune to manage Windows devices. At this time, this may affect anyone ordering new equipment that is a Mac or IOS product. The new Mac and IOS products being ordered will be registered as Clemson owned devices. This means the devices will be registered with Clemson usernames and passwords instead of personal iCloud accounts.
I have updated the Faculty Training & Support page to remove resources that applied during the pandemic. If there are other resources you need for summer or fall classes, please let me know. I also updated the Support for Student Media site to provide online learning resources that are available to our student interns and student organizations. If there are additional resources that need to be added, please let me know.
I also wanted to let everyone know that I am back on campus and if you need any assistance, please feel free to reach out to me.
Thanks,
Melissa

Hello,
I wanted to share some tips with you about how you can make your Zoom Meetings more accessible. For additional details you can take a look at Zoom's blog post on this.
Pre-Meeting Tips
Include dial-in numbers on the invite.
Provide materials ahead of time and make sure you have run Microsoft's Accessibility Checker on any presentations or documents you will be sharing with attendees.
Mute all participants on entry.
Hosting Tips
When sharing your screen be sure to verbally discuss the content you are sharing. Also speak loudly and clearly.
Make a plan for chat. On Zoom, screen readers read the comments in chat aloud, which can drown out the conversation.
Identify yourself before speaking.
Zoom Tips
Turn on captioning. There is now Live Transcription available that is available to all users. This is a setting that has to be turned on in your account settings at https://clemson.zoom.us.
Use an accessible virtual background. Backgrounds with movement can affect people who have ADD, motion sickness, dyslexia, epilepsy, or migraines.
Use the spotlight and multi-pin features to pin meeting hosts, speakers and sign langugage interpreters so that everyone can see them.
To learn more about Zoom's accessibility features, check out Zoom's Accessibility portion of their website.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Melissa

Hello,
I wanted to provide some updates from CCIT.
🖨 PaperCut has replaced PawPrints as Clemson University’s student printing and plotting solution. Effective Monday, May 24, you will no longer be able to print using PawPrints. PaperCut features a similar method of printing to PawPrints using your TigerOne card at an available printer, but you will need to install PaperCut if you plan on printing from your laptop or mobile device. PaperCut offers enhanced sustainability, an easier mobile printing experience, and integration with newer printers on campus. More information, including installers and quick start guides for Windows, Mac, iOS and Android, will be available in the coming days at ccit.clemson.edu. Once this website is available, I will be sure to share with you. Plotting prices are going to be increasing from $1 to $2 per sq ft. Black and white pages will be $.05 per page, color copies will be going up to $.20 per page.
📽 Tutorial Videos are now available for Grammarly.
🗞 The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal are now available to faculty and staff for free.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Melissa

Hello,
So, I wanted to share something with you in case you had seen something about this in online magazines like Campus Technology or at conferences this spring. Ensemble, the system we use for lecture capture and video storage at Clemson was bought recently by Panopto. I wanted to reassure you that if you are planning to use Ensemble for your videos for class this summer, that this will not affect your videos. Ensemble will continue to provide support and updates for their products until September 2022. CCIT and Clemson Online are working together to establish a plan for lecture capture and video streaming on Clemson's campus. As soon as I know additional information I will be sure to share this information with you.
In the meantime, several of you are teaching online this summer so I wanted to share some resources I have been collecting regarding Online Discussions and Asynchronous Video.

Hello,
I wanted to share a couple of updates with you. Some of these you may have already seen in Canvas or Our Clemson.
Zoom Update - You now have the ability to add exceptions to meetings where you Require Authentication to Join. This is great if you want a more secure meeting, but know you may have guest speakers throughout the year. This setting can only be modified from https://clemson.zoom.us, it is not available in the Zoom client or through the Canvas integration.
OneDrive Integration for Canvas - there is now a OneDrive integration for Canvas that can be accessed via Course Navigation link or through the external apps tool in the Canvas Rich Content Text Editor. Please read the permissions that this grants users to your files before you select to integrate!
Ensemble - Ensemble was upgraded over Spring Break and has a couple of new features.
Please let me know if you have any questions about these updates.
Thanks,
Melissa

Hello,
I wanted to share a couple of items with you.
Mac Big Sur update
Security has cleared this update. Please note that not all applications currently work with Big Sur. If you have specific software you rely on daily and need help checking to see if it is compatible with Big Sur, please let me know. I recommend against upgrading mid semester if you are teaching from that computer. However, if you are wanting to upgrade CCIT has released this update.

Manually Posting Grades in Canvas
Some updates to the gradebook have taken away the gradebook muting feature that some are used to seeing. I have attached a document with some screenshots on how you can change your Canvas Course Grading Policy as well as Posting Grades.
Accessing Prior Semester Courses
At the end of the semester courses that are not currently being taught are removed from your Dashboard. If you would like to add them back, I have included a document with the steps on how you can do this.
Hope you have a great weekend.
Thanks,
Melissa

Hello everyone,
I just received notice that there had been an issue with Canvas this afternoon. I have attached the outage/incident information below in case you need to know the timeframe. In researching this further it looks like it had to do with the Rich Content Editor. If you were trying to edit a page, discussion board, assignment, announcement, etc. that contained the Rich Content Editor you may have received an error message. This issue should be resolved. Please let me know if you have any issues.
Thanks,
Melissa
