Hello,
I wanted to make you aware of two items:

Hello,
I wanted to let you know that earlier this month the latest upgrade for Mac OS was released (Mac OS 11 also known as Big Sur). Please do not update to this at this time. Many of our systems do not support it yet. Also, please encourage your students not to upgrade at this time as well. This can affect Zoom, Respondus, Antivirus, and other applications that they may need to complete their semester.
This is the CCIT Advisory for this: https://ccit.clemson.edu/news/apple-macos-big-sur-11-0-advisory/
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Melissa
Hello
I just wanted to you everyone know about this issue.

Hello Everyone,
I wanted to let you know that I have researched the Zoom Recording issue that was presented last week to determine how I can assist you in migrating your recordings. Below is what I can tell you:
Archives will be rolling and will occur every Friday. This will be a manual process for the first couple of months. Then it will become automated.
Depending on how you setup your recordings within your Canvas courses I may or may not be able to assist you in migrating them to Ensemble. If you would like me to verify if I can assist you in migrating your recordings that you want to keep, please email me at memarsh@clemson.edu.
In order to know where Zoom recordings will need to be downloaded from you will need to remember whether you set them up through Canvas or Zoom. This will determine where you will need to go to download your recordings.
If you request to have the migration utility turned on for your Ensemble accounts(which I highly recommend), it will migrate recordings from the last 30 days and all future recordings automatically to your Ensemble account. Before you request for this to be setup, make sure that you have setup your Ensemble account.
To setup your Ensemble account,
1. Open a web browser and navigate to https://ensemble.clemson.edu.
2. Click the HERE link in the middle of the login page.
3. This will bring up the Clemson login page. Login with your Clemson credentials.
4. This will create your account the first time you login.
Here are two videos I created to assist you with migrating your recordings from Zoom to Ensemble.
Downloading your Zoom Recordings - https://youtu.be/P7GSEDX8imc
Uploading your Zoom Recordings to Ensemble - https://youtu.be/pdZdlimGYXs
Please let me know if any additional questions arise regarding migration of your Zoom Recordings.
Thanks,
Melissa
Hello,
I wanted to make sure everyone saw the global announcement in Canvas regarding Zoom recordings. CCIT posted an announcement regarding this in their Monday, October 19 newsletter.
https://ccit.clemson.edu/news/zoom-storage-update-effective-october-23-2020/
Below are some additional details that were not provided in the Canvas announcement.
This will pertain to all Zoom meeting recordings not just those that are linked in your Canvas course.
Any recordings created prior to April 26, 2020 will be sent to the trash and then permanently removed 30 days afterwards.
If you have any recordings you no longer need, please login to https://clemson.zoom.us. Then click the Recordings tab on the left. Select the checkbox for the recordings that can be removed. Then click the Delete Selected button.
To download your recordings to migrate to Ensemble:
From Canvas:
Open your Canvas course
Click Zoom
Click Cloud Recordings
Click the name of the recording
Then click download for each file
From Zoom:
Login to https://clemson.zoom.us
Click the Recordings link in the left navigation
Find the recording to download
Click the more button and select Download
You will then be prompted to save the number of files associated with that recording
Click OK to download.
I will provide additional details and steps as I learn more. If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out and I will do my best to answer questions and help.
Thanks,
Melissa
Hello,
I wanted to share this with everyone in case you are not enrolled on the OTEI listserv.

Adobe Connect is being digitally sunset. If you have any content on the Adobe Connect server (Meeting Recordings, Adobe Presenter content, Video Content, Uploaded content) and you need these files for historical purposes for accrediting agencies you will want to download them by December 2020. Please think back to any content you may have linked to your Canvas courses from our Adobe Connect server.
Our Office of Information Security & Privacy team issued a new cybersecurity alert regarding an unsolicited email from ZoomInfo. Clemson users have reported receiving an unsolicited email from ZoomInfo with the subject line, “Notice of personal information processing…” Clemson University has no relationship with the ZoomInfo company, and ZoomInfo has no association with the actual Zoom video conferencing company that is used by Clemson. Questions for Clarification on Fall 2020 – from Dean, Undergraduate Studies
1. We encourage instructors who are planning on teaching their courses on campus and have been assigned classrooms to use those classrooms during the first few weeks while we are fully online. This will allow them to get familiar with the technology and physical layout of each room.
2. During “online only” mode, instructors should only use the room they are assigned and only at the scheduled time. This will assure that there are no conflicts and that all have the chance to use their assigned classrooms. We will also need to track usage so that resources are not wasted in cleaning classrooms that are not being used.
3. It is recommended that faculty record lectures because there could be issues with time zones, connectivity, and potential illness that will impact attendance in a synchronous course. This is a good reason for instructors to consider using their assigned classrooms, so they can get comfortable using the technology.
4. We should do our best to accommodate students who may be residing in other time zones. This may have to be handled on a case-by-case basis, taking into consideration classroom capacities when we do return.
WeCU Video Campaign
In the wake of the death of George Floyd and the reignited Black Lives Matter Movement, over 2,500 students and faculty signed a petition asking Clemson to better combat racism on campus. The petition asks for improvements to the CU 1000 course to create a richer dialogue between students about race and identity. Knowing that change happens faster in the hands of students and faculty, we have started a video campaign called WeCU to ignite these conversations in our classrooms.
We would like to use the existing infrastructure of inside and outside classroom settings with the help of professors like you, to showcase one video per week in your classrooms. This is extremely flexible, so feel free to adjust this to your class and teaching style! The videos are student-created and will be 5-6 min long, covering topics from minority visibility, to Clemson’s racial history, to the LGBTQ student experience. The videos will include suggested discussion questions (which can be used in the classroom, on Canvas, or however you see fit) to aid students in approaching these complex topics.
If you support our project and are interested in promoting these discussions on campus, please fill out our brief Google Form, and we’ll be in touch with the next steps.
Thanks,
Melissa
Hello,
A couple of technology updates that I wanted to make you aware of:
Canvas Bug: There is a bug going on in Canvas right now. If you are not getting emails in Canvas, and you see a red exclamation mark near the Inbox in Canvas, let me know and I will enter a ticket for you. This is a bug that has to be addressed by Canvas directly. Please know that they are working diligently to try and resolve the issue.
Zoom Update: Please know when you are setting up classes for the fall term that you will need to include either a password or a waiting room in all Zoom meeting spaces starting September 27. This is a new requirement. Right now the password option is turned on by default.
LockDown Browser: There is currently a rumor going around that Zoom can be used in conjunction with the Respondus Lockdown Browser to monitor exams. This rumor is false. These two tools cannot be used together.
Camtasia 2020: Camtasia 2020 is now available for download from the CCIT website. It is also being installed on all podium computers in the classrooms for use in the Fall 2020 term.
As always, please let me know if I can be of assistance.
Thanks,
Melissa

Hello,
In case you are not part of the OTEI listserv I wanted to share this information.
The library has put together resources and information regarding Library Services during this time.
https://clemson.libguides.com/onlinelearning
There are free eBooks available thru RedShelf and Vital Sources to students during this time. Please see the information below for details.
Major e-textbooks subscription services are allowing students to have unlimited access to their e-textbook collections from now to May because of the Coronavirus situation. Many instructors have been approaching the Libraries, asking for parts of textbooks to be put online for their students. Using the special e-textbook access will help solve this problem and allow students to access textbooks without violating copyright. There are 2 major services:
This site allows students to access textbooks from all major publishers through May 25, 2020 at no cost. Students can:
1. Go to https://www.vitalsource.com
2. Look for the “Sign in” button at the top right of the screen.
3. Click on it and create an account with their Clemson email address.
4. After creating an account, select the blue “Bookshelf” button at the top of the screen.
5. From there, students can search for books, rent them at no cost, and access them until May 25th.
1. Redshelf is providing students no-cost access to digital textbooks for the rest of the semester, thanks to the generosity of their publishing partners. The program applies to students from nonprofit, semester-based colleges and universities in the U.S. and Canada. Each student may access up to seven free eBooks, and access will run through May 25th, 2020.
2. Students should go to: https://www.about.redshelf.com/redshelfresponds.
3. They will also need to create an account with their Clemson email address.
NOTE: Anyone with an academic email address can access these services. So, faculty can check them out, too.
Career Services is now online
· While the physical offices of the Center for Career and Professional Development are closed, staff members continue to work remotely and are eager to serve. Use the following link to reach the COVID-19 page with further information: career.clemson.edu/about_us/covid-19.php

I have been able to setup my phone to forward to my cell phone. So, you can now reach me by phone by dialing (864)656-4296.
This is just a general overview. I hope to create one with more details about teaching synchronously that I can share with you as well. Speaking of synchronous, a couple of people have reached out recently and asked me to setup Zoom meetings for them. If you will make sure you have completed the following steps, this will help me tremendously. If this is too complicated just email me and let me know that I have permission to be assigned as a scheduler for you. Then I will take care of the rest.
Open a web browser and navigate to https://clemson.zoom.us
Click Sign In.
Login with your Clemson credentials. (The first time you do this your account will be created.)
This should also load your Profile page. (Verify that your User Type is licensed.)
Click the Settings link in the left menu.
At the bottom of your profile page, there is a section called Schedule Privilege.
Click the + button and add memarsh@clemson.edu.
Then click Assign.
This will allow me to create meetings for you where you are the host.
One more quick note, I am working an alternate schedule right now since both of my children are out of school. My day normally starts around 6:30am and runs until 6:00pm with breaks in between to help my children with e-learning.
Thank you for your patience as we work our way through this challenging time.
Please let me know how I can continue to help you.

Subject: RE: no charge for iClicker Reef for courses transitioning to online delivery
Professor Lockhart,
We at iClicker want to help you maintain as much normalcy as possible given the need to move your course online. We want to assure you that you can continue to engage students with polling questions, provide assessment with quizzes and help you keep track of attendance with iClicker as you move your class to an online delivery format.
We are offering free access to iClicker Reef for all courses allowing any student to participate in iClicker sessions using a smartphone, tablet or laptop. This will allow students who have been participating using an iClicker remote (or not participating at all) to use iClicker's mobile solution, Reef, at no charge. If this is of interest to you please email me your course information or fill out this Google form.
Students new to Reef will need to download the iClicker Reef app from the Apple Store or Google Play (or go to iClicker.com), create an account and add your course before they can participate.
If you are currently using our iClicker Classic instructor software you will need to click here for instructions on how to enable your course to allow the use of mobile. You will also need to share this course information with your students who are new to Reef. You can sign up for a training session at this link.
If you are using our iClicker Cloud instructor software be sure to turn OFF geolocation if you are using the Attendance feature via the instructions linkedhere. You will then be able to administer polls, quizzes and track attendance just as you do in your regular sessions.
With iClicker you do not have to recreate your questions in another format. Even if the majority of your course is asynchronous you can use iClicker Reef during virtual TA office hours and or virtual peer leading sessions, host a live weekly Q&A using iClicker or give a weekly quiz at an announced date and time. In addition, all the question slides are available to students via iClicker Reef study tools.
iClicker will be hosting a brief training webinar covering best practices for using iClicker in an online course on Friday, March 20 at 2 pm EST. If you would like to join or receive a link to the recording please register here.
If you have questions or need additional information please call or email or click on the schedule a time to connect in my email signature to book an appointment.
Sincerely,

Hello everyone,
I know it is late and I apologize that I am sending this email so late. I tried so hard to get this done Friday, but just ran out of time. Due to the email that went out earlier this evening, I felt it was pertinent to get this finished and out to everyone.
Attached you will find a checklist that I created for working remotely. This is a combination of resources provided by CCIT and Clemson Online regarding resources that are available to you if you are working from home. I also pulled together tips provided by people who work from home regularly and those that have been working remotely during the COVID-19 outbreak in China.
I hope you find them useful.
Thanks,
Melissa
Hello,
I created a comparison chart regarding the web conferencing tools that are integrated with Canvas as I have had several questions about them this week. It has officially been opened up campus wide until the end of the semester. If you plan to use Zoom for Instructional Continuity, please follow the steps below to setup and use your account for online instruction.
Open a web browser
Login to https://clemson.zoom.us
Click Sign In.
On the default entry page verify that your User Type is licensed.
Once you have done this, you can follow the instructions in this tutorial for how to setup and use Zoom from your Canvas course.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions or need help with either of these tools.
Thanks,
Melissa
Hello,
Below are a couple of updates I would like to share with you:
Today, March 9 at 2:00pm EST the Online Learning Consortium will be presenting a webinar titled, “Using Live, Online Sessions to Support Continuity of Instruction.” If you plan on using a webconferencing tool for Academic Continuity, I would encourage you to register for the webinar. If you register, but are unable to attend, you will receive a recording to the webinar.
I know several of you have contacted me regarding Zoom and whether we have an enterprise license.Zoom is currently in pilot on our campus for online instruction. At this time you can setup a free Zoom account by navigating to https://clemson.zoom.us. Free accounts cannot be integrated with our Canvas LMS and are limited in their functionality. Please review the comparison chart to see the limitations. Due to the number of questions regarding our Zoom license, Clemson Online posted a statement on the Zoom login page to let everyone know that, “In the scale of a large-scale disruption where Academic Continuity plans are put into action, licensed Zoom accounts would be available for all faculty and staff to finish the semester.” Please know that everyone at this time has access to a free full access WebEx account that can be integrated with your Canvas course now. To see a comparison of WebEx and Zoom, please watch the Web Conferencing Tutorial.
I have been adding some additional resources to my website to assist faculty that may have questions on methods they can create lectures. I am also creating some checklists that I will share with you later this week to assist you in your preparations should you need to teach online.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding putting your course online, I am here to help. Please feel free to reach out to me. If you email me, I can setup a time to meet with you that works for you. Faculty can also receive help in person or online from any Clemson Online employee, at the following dates and times:
If you follow social media, I would encourage you to follow the following group of hashtags. People are posting free resources and tutorials that you my benefit from.
#covid19 #highered #elearning
Thanks,
Melissa
Hello,
So many new things to discuss and share with you. My apologies for not sending out an update sooner.
1) First I would like to let you know that the book that Mariah Meachum mentioned in the January 26th Colloquium titled How to Get Grant Money in the Humanities and Social Sciences by Raphael Folsom is now available in ebook format through Clemson libraries.
2) I finally finished creating both a handout and a short video on how to use the Daniel 303 classroom equipment. I have added these under the Facility & Event Coordination area on my website as well as the Faculty Training & Support page.
3) I have started a library of videos for the Watt Center Communication Studios. A link for these can be found under the Communication Center portion of my website.
4) I have updated the format of the Faculty Training & Support page to try and make it easier to use. Please feel free to provide additional feedback or requests, as I have added a Requests form to the page as well.
5) I have created a Slack Workspace called CU Tech Tidbits. There is a link on the Faculty Training & Support page. Please feel free to message me directly through this application with any questions you have. You can also call and talk with me through this application.
6) A couple weeks ago Ensemble our campus media server was updated. I have created a handout regarding some of the new functionality. I am also working on a video. This will allow you to Create a Video Assignment with a Rubric.
7) During the February 12th Colloquium, most faculty encouraged the use of mid semester surveys. Melissa Welborn and Holly Feil with the Office of Institutional Research sent out an email regarding a new course evaluation system they are testing out called EvalKit. You can sign-up to participate in piloting this tool by emailing EKAdmin@clemson.edu. The midterm evaluations will go out this week (March 2-6) and results are only provided to the faculty member, not the department chair or administration.
8) The hot topic in recent news is the Coronavirus. This is another example of why we have started the Academic Continuity testing. I wanted to share this article with you regarding how NYU responded to the Coronavirus when they had to close their Shanghai campus. They used a combination of tools like their LMS, Voicethread, Slack, Zoom, Remote Proctoring, Streaming Video as well as other tools to change quickly to an online format. A lot of these tools are available to you through Clemson. Please reach out to me to learn about any of these tools.
9) The February 26th Colloquium notes and handouts are now available through Canvas. Thank you Dr. Cranmer for the detailed look at How to Build a Research Program. The next Colloquium is March 11th.
Thanks,
Melissa

Hello,
I am so excited to be here to help you with your Training and Support needs. I wanted to start off the week by sharing with you a presentation I created to summarize the Academic Continuity exercise that is coming up on February 19, 2020. I also wanted to share with you a checklist of items to keep in mind for this day as well.
Please join me for the Digital Tools for Collaboration & Engagement Community this month through OTEI.
Topic: Voicethread
Date: February 17th
Time: 3:30pm
Location: Tillman 420.
This is a great way to learn about new tools that you can use to collaborate and engage with your students.
Please take a minute to complete this survey. I would like to get an idea of what type of training is a top priority for you and how you would like to receive it.
Many thanks for the warm welcome,
Melissa
