— Career Bio

Dr. Md. Rajibul Islam is an Associate Professor and Chairman of the Department of Data Science and Engineering at the Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT). He holds a Ph.D. in Physics (Photonics Engineering) from the University of Malaya, Malaysia (2017), an M.Sc. in Information Technology from Multimedia University, Malaysia (2010), and a BCA from IGNOU, India (2004).
He recently completed a two-year research fellowship at the Photonics Research Institute, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (2023–2025). Prior to that, he was a Visiting Ph.D. Researcher at the University of Limerick, Ireland, under the Erasmus Mundus – INTACT scholarship program.
Dr. Islam has previously served as Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Asia Pacific (UAP) and as an Assistant Professor there. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE Photonics Society and IEEE Computational Intelligence Society.
His research interests include machine learning, artificial intelligence, data mining, optical fiber sensors, and photonic devices. He has published approximately 100 peer-reviewed scientific papers, along with several books and book chapters, and serves as a reviewer for numerous international journals.
