MDC UK & Ireland Province has been in existence since 2001. This viably vibrant external assembly of the Movement for Democratic Change in Zimbabwe headed by his Excellency Morgan Tsvangirayi, has been expanding its membership and branch structures ever since its inception. Given the amount of organizing and administration required to manage the structures, the province was mandated by the National Council of the MDC in Zimbabwe, to form districts with a view to increase membership and sympathizers alike. North District was formed on the 17th of May 2008 at the elections held in Leeds. Branches were represented and the named individuals elected for a period of five years. Their mandate is to steer the membership and deal with the day to day party issues within the district. The district covers northern England, Scotland and Ireland. Since the ushering in of the first District Executive, there has been a lot of progress towards full functionality of the branch structures by either new formations and or gap fillings.

· To make a difference to people’s lives, both individually and within their communities through sharing political experiences.
· To work in partnership to extend and increase access to other political setups, human rights organizations and local communities.
· To engage the local political powerhouses in order to draw similarities as a government in waiting.
· To work as a pipeline through which local political parties and groupings can draw first hand information on the regime’s masquarades and escapades with a view to conscientising the communities and relevant authorities.
· To enrich the current twinning programme by forming active links between various institutions within the District and those in Zimbabwe
