Thomas McMullin married Mary Thompson in Ireland and, in 1867, came to Lawrence, NZ with their newborn son (Thomas) and Mary's mother Ann - recently widowed. Two other Thompson sisters already lived at Wetherstones, Lawrence. They had earlier emigrated to the Australian goldfields and had married into the Pearson and Anderson families.
