What is VoiceThread?
Students will use the web-based program VoiceThread. This programme will allow students to develop their oral skills at home. In the website, students will record comments on specific topics or realize projects; these comments or projects are then reviewed by the teacher. Here is how the programme is described on its website:
''With VoiceThread, group conversations are collected and shared in one place from anywhere in the world. All with no software to install.A VoiceThread is a collaborative, multimedia slide show that holds images, documents, and videos and allows people to navigate slides and leave comments in 5 ways - using voice (with a mic or telephone), text, audio file, or video (via a webcam). Share a VoiceThread with friends, students, and colleagues for them to record comments too. Users can doodle while commenting, use multiple identities, and pick which comments are shown through moderation. VoiceThreads can even be embedded to show and receive comments on other websites and exported to MP3 players or DVDs to play as archival movies.''
At the school, we use the K12 version. ''All of the VoiceThread K-12 Products use Ed.VoiceThread, our secure and accountable environment found at ed.voicethread.com. It's a web-based communications network built specifically for K-12 Students and Educators.'' In the K12 version, only the teachers and students from the same classroom (if given access by the teacher) can hear students' comments and projects.

We believe that using VoiceThread has several benefits - VoiceThread:
- gives opportunities to practice speaking outside the classroom;
- gives the students opportunities to hear, assess, monitor and correct themselves;
- gives evidence of students' speaking performance;
- motivates students through the use of technology and change from written-form homework.
Finally, VoiceThread is very user-friendly; there is even an app!
