Zing Photo Album 07/06/2001 - Here today, gone tomorrow! In January, I posted a Zing photo album on my page. I thought it was pretty neat... a way to link to a bunch of pictures without using up all my free space here at Comcast@Home. It was a great service but it didn't survive the severe downdraft that has done in so many fledgling internet businesses. Too bad!
Pictures. You are encouraged to submit pictures to be shared on this site with the rest of the family. Pictures can be in any of 34 different PC formats but I prefer JPEG (file extension JPG). Thumbnails of your pictures will be posted on your personal page. The full-size picture can be viewed by clicking on the thumbnail. Family members who have pictures posted are indicated by a bold name on the left hand contents bar. Pictures that include members of multiple families will be posted to the Marylea Farm Pix page, which can be reached from the Links section. Other photos of general interest, like weddings, vacations, etc. will also be made available through the Links page.
AIM. AOL users have a program called Internet Messenger or IM included with their AOL software. Later versions of Netscape ship with a version of the program. The software is also available as a free, stand-alone program which can be downloaded from your favorite shareware library (try ZDNet). IM runs in the background while you are on the internet and, using a "buddy" list that you create, watches to see if "anybuddy" is online. If you see "somebuddy" that you would like to chat with, IM lets you type messages back and forth in real time. The buddy list uses screen names. For AOL users, screen names are the same as their email addresses (without the @AOL.com). Other users have to create a screen name of their choosing. To create your own buddy list, look for family members who have AOL email addresses and non-AOL users who have screen names published in this roster.
