2022 Youth Fishing Derby

This year was our 9th annual public youth fishing derby and despite the heat and lower numbers we still had an awesome event! We had volunteers from the McCook Lake IWLA and from a local fishing club, The Ox Bow Bandits Fishing Club, they assisted the kids with rigging and baiting, casting and retrieving and measuring the fish they caught. The kids spent the morning fishing and competing in several contests. We had a biggest fish, smallest fish, and a casting competition divided into two age groups. This year we also started collecting data on membership attendance, how often the kids fish and how many years they have been coming to the derby as a family.

Here is a few graphs showing the data we collected at our online registration. It does not reflect the people that registered on paper as we did not collect the following information from them. We hope to use and expand these metrics to grow our event and raise conservation awareness.
