2023 Island Access Rules
Policy for Access to Island property
All McCook Lake chapter IWLA current members have the right of access to the Island property for the following purposes:
Mushroom Hunting
Nature walks
Shoreline fishing
Access to the island for the above stated reasons will have to follow the following procedure:
Persons need to be a member in good standing with the chapter, i.e. current membership is paid for the year.
Coordination with the caretaker for permission to enter the property. (via text message or phone call)
Coordination with the caretaker when you are leaving the property. (via text message or phone call)
Failure to follow these guidelines will result in the member not being eligible to access the property for 30 days.
All McCook Like IWLA Members have the right to enter a lottery for access to the Island property for Turkey and Deer hunting during the appropriate season.
Entry for the lottery will be prior to August 1st of each year.
Entry forms available from the caretaker.
Preference points will be awarded as follows:
Not being selected for the previous year (1 point).
Attending McCook Lake General Meeting (1 point/meeting).
Volunteering for events (2 points/event). Such as Kids fishing day, chapter work events (posted on Face book), etc.
10 members will be selected and allowed to place deer stands on the island property.
Each member can have their immediate family included on access.
Such as husband, wife, and children living at the same residence.
College Students must be a student member of the chapter.
Adult children 18 years old and above, non-college student must have their own membership.
Stands will be allowed to be installed based on the public land deer season rules.
Stands will be labeled with the members name and phone number.
Caretaker will be notified and marked on topographical map of the stand locations.
Prior to accessing the island, the caretaker will be notified via text message when you are hunting on the island.
Upon departure from hunting the caretaker will be notified via text message when you have left the island.
Failure to follow these guidelines will result in member not being eligible for the following years lottery drawing.
Stands will be removed, by hunter, 2 weeks post deer season.
Stands that are not removed will be removed from the island.
A $100 recovery fee will be accessed for each deer stand recovered.
