A Documented Genealogy, as opposed to a myth.
Hello! If you are just starting to research your genealogy and are a fairly close cousin to me, then you may be in for quite a surprise! Below and on the older generation pages you may find much of your ancestry documented and laid out for you. When I began searching my ancestry I never thought I would get this far. Finding at least 30 ancestors who served in the American Revolution, [ NEW: online Index DAR , not all who served have been recorded with the DAR], 3 more who served in the Civil War, and many more who helped found this Great Country in the 1600s, along with Mayflower ancestries for my wife and myself certainly exceeded my expectations. I have put thousands of hours of research into this tree.
Taking the time to document one's ancestral past can be quite rewarding. It kind of 'grounds the soul' for lack of a better description. My early American ancestry mostly from Mass. and Conn., makes for the easiest research with such great early record keeping. This especially applies to Springfield, Mass., where much of my ancestry is centered.
See "From Puritans to Presidents", Springfield's 375th birthday & Springfield Deed from Agawam Indians. Our Springfield Ancestors made sure they treated the Indians proper and bought (Not stole as is often taught today) land from the Native American Indians. This worked fine until about the time King Philip (an American Indian) declared war upon the settlers of New England in 1675. Apparently the rapid and efficient reproduction of the Colonial families was to much for their comfort. My own surname ancestor, Thomas Miller was ambushed and killed along with another of my Grandfathers, Lt. Thomas Cooper on Oct 5, 1675 just before Agawam Indian warriors proceeded to burn down Springfield. A friendly Indian named Toto had forewarned the inhabitants of Springfield saving unknown numbers of lives. Those attacking Springfield were the Agawam Indians, thought to be friendly to the inhabitants of Springfield, from their Indian village located a short distance southwest of where Sumner Avenue meets Longhill Street.
When I was a student at Sumner Avenue Elementary School and Forest Park Junior High school, I lived very near the West end of Sumner Ave. where it meets Longhill Street. I used to deliver newspapers to the houses/mansions opposite the west end of Sumner Ave. and to the very southwest end of Longhill street. I was clueless of the history at that time and never would have known had I not researched my genealogy. Good for Springfield and most all of Western Massachusetts land owners, who can trace our deeds back to original Indian deeds!
While the burning of Springfield happened during King Philip's war, their is no evidence King Philip himself was in the area at that time. Another myth is the mention of "King Philip's Stockade" or "King Philip's Fort" south of the Agawam Indian Village/Stockade. This "King Philip's" fort did not exist, see the Springfield Republican Archives article titled "Local Historian Attacks Legend of King Philip's visit to Stockade", April 22, 1922.
The actual burning of Springfield was done by the local 'friendly' Agawam Indians. After selling the settlers the land and then forty years of mingling with the settlers in a peaceful coexistence they decided to war on Springfield. Then they had to abandon their village. One complaint I often hear today is the Indians were ripped off for some beads or Wampum for the deeding of the land. Wampum was the Indians "Money", it probably had a more stable value than our endlessly printed paper money has today. The Indians might have had better financial sense than we have today.
From reading the descriptions of this Agawam Indian Stockade from various sources, it fits the location referenced by the DAR marker on Longhill Street. Using Google Earth and reading the elevations, it looks like the marker refers to roughly 42d 04' 51.82" N, by, 72d 34' 40.49" W the location of a house/building. The DAR marker points out the correct location of the former Stockade village.
The Maps above were scanned from First Century Of The History Of Springfield, Henry M. Burt, copyright 1898.
The map on the left is from Mill River and to the north.
The map in the center is a continuation north of the first map.
The last map contains two smaller maps, the first being a continuation north of the first two maps, the second being a continuation south of Mill River to Pecowsic Brook, (1655).
The Agawam Indian Stockade was located just east of the granted lots on the Mill River to Pewcowsic Brook map. Notice the granted lots eastern boundries end at 'the brow of the hill'. The Stockade fence was just east or abutting one or more of the lots at the brow of the hill, somewhere from maybe John Leonard's to John Harmon's lots, I believe. Keep in mind that the brow of the hill is nowhere near as straight as the map shows. Where the Stockade fence was located the terrain was in the shape of a "truncated cone" as described by one writer. Using Google earth and watching the elevations helps show this. Interestingly the only other settler to have died the same day as Thomas Miller and Thomas Cooper was Pentecost Mathews ("killed in the south part of Town"), wife of one of the just mentioned lot owners. This John Mathews also purchased John Leonard's and Jonathan Taylor's lots near the Agawam Indian Stockade. (see the map) I can't help but wonder if Pentecost Mathews was protecting a fall harvest.......

Vital records very often contain errors, especially death records where a stressed informant may not know or remember all the facts. Essex County, N.Y. especially, has errors in the place of birth given for parents in the census, often the informant is a spouse or child with a foggy memory of what they thought was true at that time, also the ages in Essex County are often way off from the correct age.
Historical/Genealogy Books are not always correct. It is best to verify them wherever possible. The best books include sources. Unsourced books that were written not long after the included events, can be believed much easier than books written 400 years after the fact. This applies to on-line genealogies too. There are a few on-line genealogies which have excellent sources included (much better than my own tree). Many genealogy books have been written without including sources. Without sources included, the work has to be taken on faith. Each book or genealogy needs to be judged on it's own. Some Town Genealogies are excellent even without sources as they had access to the Town records and in many cases people who knew the facts. Family tree information found from LDS, IGI, and WFT and the like, I think is best only used for leads as much of it is not only wrong but sometimes carelessly compiled with little regard to reality. New genealogy researchers are apt to assume LDS, IGI, and WFT to always be correct, but if they take the time to search for the truth they will no doubt soon discover differently.
Unknown previous marriages can contribute to errors in maiden names, fortunately this error 'should' lead to a dead end.
Note: To my surprise, I have yet to find one proven divorce/separation in this tree! The only possible exception might be #70P and #71p. Plenty of multiple marriages due to deaths though.
The letter 'p' after a number means I believe the name is proved within the known facts, keeping in mind lone early census records don't always prove family relations.
The letter 'q' after a number means I think the name may be questioned, and I end the line there.
A '?' is usually specific to a date, place of birth, etc.. it doesn't question the truth of the individual entry.
A '+' at the end of a source means this same source also applies to the spouse. (Saves Bandwidth)
As time permits I will continue to add proof of these lines with Vital Records; or Historical Documents and books backed up by any Vital Records I can find. I don't see much of a point in compiling an ancestry such as this if it can't be believed, now or in the future.
Multiply by 2 to find the father, multiply by 2 and add 1 to find the mother.
Also, I have color coded each ancestral line beginning with Generation Two, to make it easier to track the lines up and down the page.

GENERATION ONE
=====================================================================
2p Father born 19++ B/C; M/C; D/C; Census.
3p Mother born 19++ B/C; M/C; D/C.
Comments: I was raised by great parents!. My father made little in wages delivering poultry or milk to retail stores. Yet, they managed to serve us kids plenty at meal time. I remember Sunday dinners often included 1/2 a chicken plus spaghetti and veggies on each plate. I can't eat 1/2 a chicken today! Plenty of large steak meals too. They would take the whole family on vacation to Maine, Cape Cod, or outdoor camping parks at the Lakes every year. We would fish, boat, swim, along with plenty to eat and some super crab meat rolls! Plenty of toys at Christmas and birthdays. We lived in a house with a big back yard with swimming pool for quite a few years, along with a nice pool table indoors. My father never said too much, he raised more by example. If they were short of money they didn't run out for welfare, instead they would work additional hours in the evenings to keep us all eating well. If a neighbor was out of line, my father would set them straight in a respectful manner. My mother kept a tight leash on us brats without losing her sanity. She later worked at a Diner to loan me money for my post H.S. education. They would let us go fishing at local ponds, and often with our Grandparents at their cottage by the Lake. Our Grandparents would spoil us good!. Mountains of Pancakes for breakfast, baked cookies, fishing, swimming, listen to or watch the Red Sox. The only complaint I have is the indoor rabbit ear and foil antennas we used for tv reception at home, because we could not afford a decent outdoor roof top aerial, usually on an old 'flukey' tube tv that would cut in and out while trying to watch favorite shows, LOL. My father's final job was still below 7 dollars/hour. Many families would not have made it under similar inflation adjusted income, especially today. Proper morals and hard work prevailed. A childhood to be thankful for!

"Sturbridge"; S101, born Sturbridge, w/wrong year, shows March 14, 18"15"; Census 1850 Ludlow, MA., age 42 (= abt 1808), w/wife Eunice; Census 1870 Ludlow, MA., age 60 (= abt 1810), w/wife Eunice; Census 1880 Ludlow, MA., age 71 (= abt 1809); 1865 Ludlow, State Census, age 56 (= abt 1809); 1855 Ludlow State Census, age 46 (= abt 1809). Census 1860 Ludlow, MA., daughter Lillie Pike is in The Billings home and Jonas and Eunice have been replaced by a Jonas age 49 ( = abt 1811) and Mary age 44 and daughter Aroline age 12 ("Areoline" is shown as a daughter of Jonas and Eunice in S101 but should be about age 9) (Census errors can be seemingly atrocious at times but might be easily explained if all the facts were known) Example: The census taker was talking to a child who was into Dad's Cider? Note Aeroline is shown as age 4 in the 1855 Ludlow Ma., State Census along with sister Lillian age 7.
Marriage int.: Jan 10, 1839 Palmer, MA., MI/R.
Marriage: March 7, 1838, S101.
Death: Oct 7, 1886 Ludlow, MA., D/R age 76, birth Sturbridge, informant's info
does not show Jonas's father's name and gives wrong name for the mother "Mary" (Wife Eunice was also known as Mary, see 1860 census). D/R's often contain errors as the informant may be stressed and/or have a lack of knowledge or memory of the facts. Also, nicknames are commonly used.
Additional Sources include: 1855 Ludlow, Ma., State Census
Comments: Grave stone in Ludlow Center Cemetery shows the WRONG birth year for Jonas, (month and day are correct and match his Sturbridge B/R). This may be where the History of Ludlow got the wrong birth year. His death record with age and place of birth included confirms his Sturbridge B/R date along with all the census records. Whoever buried Jonas and wife Eunice appears to have been fuzzy on the facts, with no knowledge of their parents. After all the facts are seen there can be no doubt at all who Jonas and Eunice's parents were.
23p Eunice Prince aka "Mary"
Birth: [Aug 15?], 1818 Springfield, MA., S101; 1818 Baptism record First Church of Springfield, w/father "Dan1 Prince" (a number one after "Dan" or Senior rather than Junior), w/year, possibly June 18, (record written in the left margin) S140; D/R shows birth in Springfield, MA., age [76/6/1?] on Jan 21, 1895, ( = birth of abt July 20, 1818) w/father "[Jonas]"[error] Prince. Obit age 76 yrs. 5 mths. (= Aug 1818).
Marriage: see spouse above.
Death: Jan 21, 1895 Ludlow, MA., D/R; S101, w/year "1895". Obit w/age 76 yrs 5 mths.
Additional sources include: Census 1850 Ludlow, age 32; Census 1870 Ludlow, age 50;
Census 1880 Ludlow, age 62, father born England; 1855 Ludlow, Ma., State Census;
Comments: Her D/R shows the wrong first name for her father, "Jonas". "Jonas" was her
husband's first name and the record fails to show her mother's name, so the informant
of the D/R had incomplete knowledge of the facts. Eunice's Bapt. shows Daniel as her
father. Eunice's 1880 census shows her father's place of birth as England. S140 shows her correctly as "Eunice" while Springfield Families by T.B. Warren shows her as [Emma, error] baptised June 28, 1818. T.B. Warren's books by NEHGS were not verified against the original records. Eunice's exact birth date is unclear but is apparently sometime in June, July or August of 1818. Old records can be difficult to transcribe correctly, and informants of D/Rs are often wrong due to poor memories or lack of knowledge of the facts often combined with it being a stressful time. See comments under Jonas above.
24p Norman B. Ames
Birth: (probably 1818), (probably Ausable), Clinton County, N.Y., Grave Stone Old Riverview Cemetery, in Clintonville, Ausable, N.Y. " Died June 27, 1869, age 51" (transcribed by C.W. McLellan in 1964); Census 1850 Ausable, N.Y., age 31; Census 1860 Chesterfield, N.Y., age 42; State Census 1865 Chesterfield; After painstakingly reviewing all the Ames Census Records of the area, and Grave Stone Inscriptions, leave me no doubt that Norman was son of Elijah Ames. Census records in this area of N.Y. were sloppy for decades with many seeming contradictions. Buried in the same small cemetery with Norman was his nephew who died at age 1 named Elijah, son of Jeremiah M.D. Ames. Norman's son Warren named his first son "William H." probably after Norman's brother "William H." Ames who shadows Norman in the census records. (Norman dying while son Warren was a young boy no doubt left Warren looking up to his Uncle William H. Ames who had no sons and 5 daughters.) (Note: # 13 also had a brother William who died young).
Marriage: after the death of his first wife Mary who died Sept. 1, 1848 (Old Riverview
Cemetery Clintonville) "Clarissa Willson" from Grave Stone in same cemetery. "Clarissa
Wilson" from daughter Cyrena's (Syrena etc.) M/R in Amherst, MA.
Death: June 27, 1869 age 51 buried in Old Riverview Cemetery, Clintonville, Ausable, N.Y.,
From C. W. McLellan transcriptions in 1964.
Additional sources include: Census 1880 Iowa for Norman's brother Jeremiah which shows his parent's birth place in Vermont matching his parent's (Elijah and spouse) 1860 census in Chesterfield; Census records including 1880 Chesterfield for brother William H. Ames showing Father born in Canada and mother born in Vermont, matching 1850 census for Elijah and spouse. (Apparently there was confusion over Elijah's birth place being Vermont or Canada); An apparent family bible from an obviously credible secondary source showing Jeremiah as son of Elijah who was born in Williston, VT. along with Matilda Day born Middletown, VT.; Census records of all other Ames in that area of New York; S106.
Comments: The Census records for Norman's father Elijah Ames along with all other
"Ames" "Amos..." census from the area paint a fairly clear picture of Elijah's family. The
census before 1850 do not give the names or even the name of Elijah's spouse, but they
show rough ages of his children. The 1850 census and later census show the children now
adults with their own families. If these were not Elijah's children, then where would the
children of a man who can't read or write go to? Especially mostly between wars and with
Iron working jobs in town. Note: Norman Ames named his first daughter "Susan M"
from 1850 Ausable Census, see # 49. Also Norman's birth place, Clinton County from 1865 State Census.
25p Clarissa Willson
Birth: July 8, 1822 N.Y. Graves Stone Old Riverview Cemetery w/birth date and maiden
name; Census 1850/60/70/80 all show birth place N.Y.; Daughter Syrena's M/R in Amherst, MA., confirm her name as Wilson. 1865 State Census shows her born in Essex County; 1875 State Census shows her born in Clinton County.
Marriage: see spouse above.
Death: May 31, 1893 Chesterfield, N.Y., Chesterfield Town Clerk D/R Claracy age 71 d.o.b.
"1822" no parents names.
Additional sources include: Census 1850 Ausable, NY.; Census 1860 Chesterfield, N.Y.;
Census 1870 Chesterfield, N.Y.; Census 1880 Chesterfield, N.Y.;
New Info: I still feel that while Clarissa named a son Warren, her most likely father was Warren Wilson of nearby Jay. I found a list of his children with wife Hannah Hunt. This list does not include the name Clarissa. Maybe she used a middle name or nickname. The list of their children are shown as Sylvester, Loyal Marshall, Juna, Harvey, Alphonso, Hadasah or (Hadassah from descendants of Henry wilson of Dedham), Rosetta, Achsah, and Esther. It notes Harvey went to Clintonville and then Illinois. See Historical Encyclopedia of Illinois
26p Ransom Smith (Pvt. Civil War)
Birth: Oct. 21, 1844 Wilmington (formerly part of Jay)/ or Ausable Forks, N.Y., Amherst D/C for daughter # 13p shows his birthplace of Wilmington; Census 1900 Chesterfield shows birth of Oct 1846; Census 1860 Jay, N.Y. shows him 14 yrs. of age living with head of houshold Charles; State Census 1892 shows Ransom named oldest son Charles. 1890 Veteran Shedules showing Charles and Ransom listed next to each other along with Widow Ellenor (Ellenor O'brien, Charles second wife); D/C w/ d.o.b. "Oct. 21, 1844", p.o.b. Ausable Forks, parents names, informant was Mrs. Ransom Smith.
Marriage: about 1867 probably Wilmington area of N.Y., daughter age 3 in 1870 census Netia? who seems to be named Jane A. in 1880 census.; Grave Stones w Ransom and Martha E. "His Wife" printed on her stone in New Riverview Cemetery, Clintonville, Ausable, N.Y.; Daughter # 13p in this tree D/C from Town of Amherst, MA. shows Ransom Smith and Emma Colby as her parents while her M/R shows mother as Martha; "Martha E." is confirmed to be the same person as Emma, from son Williams grave stone next to Martha, showing his parents as R & E Smith; William can be found in 1892 State Census with Martha and family shortly before his death in Sept. of 1892. Also confirming her name is the fact she named a daughter Emma, and another daughter Martha; New info: State Census transcription of 1905 Chesterfield, N.Y. shows "Emma M", case closed!; Census 1870 Jay, N.Y., age 22 w/wife Emma age 20; Census 1900 Chesterfield, N.Y. shows Ransom and Martha E. married 33 years ( = abt 1867 ).
Death: Oct., 17, 1919, Port Henry, N.Y.; D/C w/ d.o.d., age 74/11/26, place of burial, "Clintonville"; Grave Stone from New Riverview Cemetery Clintonville, Ausable , N.Y. from C.W. McLellan transcriptions 1964; Adirondack Record with Obit., held in Clintonville Oct 20, 1919, "late of Port Henry", "Burial Riverview Cemetery".
Additional sources include: Census 1850 Jay, N.Y. age 6/12? appears to have swapped
Ransom's age with his brother Edward, w/"Charles", father (age 20? error), and
"Jane", mother; Census 1870 Jay, N.Y. age 22 w/wife Emma age 20; Census
1880 Mineville (Moriah), age 35 w/wife "Martha E" (Emma) age 30; State Census 1892
Chesterfield, N.Y., Ransom age 46, Martha E. age 41; Civil War Records:
Ransom Smith Enlistment date of Oct 16, 1861 Plattsburg, N.Y..
Enlisted as a private "age 18" Oct 16, 1861.
Enlisted in Company M, 2nd Cavalry Regiment N.Y..
Mustered out same Company Oct 29, 1864 at Cedar Creek, VA..
Veteran Schedules from 1890 show Ransom along side his father. Ransom enlisted Oct 16,
1861. Discharged Oct 16, 1864 for 3 years 0 mths 0 days of service. Hard to read but he
was injured from being thrown from his horse.
Comments: His Grave Stone confirms this is the same Ransom Smith as that enlisted
above with the same Company M, 2nd Cavalry Regiment N.Y. as marked on his stone.
Also his father Charles is listed next to Ransom on the Veterans Schedules of 1890.
The Jane A above mentioned in the 1880 census after "Marriage" is Jane Ann Smith who later
marries Paola M. Ames bother of # 12 Warren Ames. Paola and Jane are found the New Riverview
Cemetery in The Village of Clintonville, Town of Ausable, N.Y., along with a son Norman S. Ames.
27p Emma (Emmeline) Colby aka Martha E. aka Emma Martha Colby
Birth: Oct 21, 1848 Wilmington (set off from Jay), N.Y., D/C of daughter # 13 in this tree shows Emm'a birth place, and name "Emma Colby"; M/R of daughter # 13p shows name of mother as "Martha Colby"; Census 1900 Chesterfield, N.Y., gives birth year and month; Census 1860 Jay, N.Y., age 9; Census 1870 Jay, N.Y., age 20; Census 1880 Mineville (Moriah), N.Y., age 30 as "Martha E."; State census 1892 as Martha, age 41; D/C w/d.o.b., parents, "John Colby", "Serena White".
Marriage: see spouse above.
Death: Sept. 14, 1929 Port Henry, D/C w/d.o.d., age 80/10/21, parents, name "Martha E. Smith, informant son Charles, widowed; Lake Placid news Sept. 20, Friday 1929 (search Mrs. Ra[m]son Smith); 1929 from New Riverview Cemetery Clintonville, Ausable, N.Y., transcribed by C.W. McLellan 1964; Findagrave with Emma on the left, daughter Frances on the right, :-). Plattsburgh Daily Republican, Friday September 20, 1929, "Mrs. Ransom[e] Smith, a former resident of this place who died at her home at Port Henry, was brought here for burial Monday, September 16."
Additional sources include: Census 1910 Chesterfield, N.Y.; Census 1920 Moriah, living
with son John and family; State Census transcription of 1905 Chesterfield, N.Y. with "Emma M"!!!; Family photos from the area. Check this out > 1865 N.Y. State Census with the whole gang! See the next page too.
28p Francis Smith Downing (Pvt. Civil War)
Birth: Aug 12, 1846 Enfield, MA., B/C from dcr/mdc for drowned Town of Enfield, MA., w/
parents George Washington Downing and Olive. Olive was a widow. She was previously
married to Reuben Lazell. Reuben died "?" George and Olive were married July 4, only 1
month before the birth of Francis. Grave Marker at Quabbin Cemetery w/date of Aug 12,
1846 I need a death record of Reuben died (Peoria?) to ascertain who is Francis's true father.
Marriage: about 1870, Census 1910 shows married 40 years.
Death: May 17, 1920 Enfield, MA., D/C from dcr/mdc for drowned Town of Enfield, MA.,
Widowed, w/parents "George Downing and Olive Aldrich".
Additional sources include: Census 1850 Enfield, MA., "Francis Downing" age 4 w/older
children last name Lazell from mother's first marriage; Census 1860 Enfield, MA., age 13;
Census 1870 Enfield, MA., age 22 w/parents; Census 1880 Enfield, MA., age 34; Census
1900 Enfield, MA., w/birth of Aug 1847, this has to be wrong as B/R's show birth in 1846
and recorded late on Feb 1847. Census 1920 Enfield, MA., age 73 widowed living with son
Leon; Civil war records; 1855, 1865 Enfield, Massachusetts State Census.
Comments: A Lady from the dcr made certain that the date of birth was Aug 12, 1846. She
stated that the date of Feb 1847 was the date it was recorded along with many other records.
The date of birth of Francis on his on grave marker is Aug 12, 1846. Another stone with
Francis and his wife and son Omar along with others just shows a year of 184 '7' which is
wrong. This date of 1847 probably came from a record found, that was given to son Omar
from the State of Massachusetts. It also shows the "recorded" date as the birth date no
doubt leading to the wrong date of "1847" on the second stone.
New Info: The MVR of births of Enfield for "the year next preceding May 1, 1847" (each Town has this same quote for that year at the top of the page) (From 1841 to 1849 vital statistics were recorded from May 1 of a given year to April 30 of the next year) shows Francis's birth date of "Aug 12, 1847" and the date it was registered as Feb 19, 1847. This can not be a correct birth date because he could not have been registered before he was born, on a record that was made for the State of Massachusetts before August 12, 184[7]. Also a compilation of the Downings of Enfield shows Francis's birth date as "Aug 12, 1846" from Enfield VRs comfirming the above B/C from Enfield.

29p Mary Frances Mathews
Birth: Sept. 1848 St. Albans, ME., Census 1900 Enfield, MA., shows her birth in Sept 1848;
Grave Stone Quabbin Cemetery shows "1848" also; D/C birth place St. Albans Maine w/age
brings birth to June 1847, w/parents Joel Matthews and Elizabeth [Powers, error]; Census
1850 St. Albans, ME., age 2; Census 1860 St. Albans, ME. age 12 w/sister Ida age 2; Census
1880 Enfield, MA., age 32 living with Francis Smith Downing and Ida M. Mathews age 22
"sister in law to head of household"; M/R of parents with full names in St. Albans VR's;
1870 Census Saint Albans, ME., age 21, "school teacher"; 1910 Census Enfield, MA., age 62
p.o.b. Maine. Parents p.o.b. Maine.
Marriage: see spouse above.
Death: Feb. 26, 1916 Smith's Villiage, Enfield, MA., D/C from dcr/mdc for drowned Town of
Enfield, MA., age 68/8, birthplace St. Albans, Maine.
Comments: Interestingly Mary's sister Ida M. mentioned above is seen not only in the
Enfield, MA. Census of 1880, but also in the St. Albans, ME., Census of the same year of
1880. Apparently she was not actually in St. Albans when the census was taken as it states
she was "At school". I assume she was in Massachusetts attending College. (UMASS?).
30p Francis (Frank) R. Lisk
Birth: May, 1854 Northern Ireland, M/C from dcr/mdc for drowned Town of Enfield, MA.,
birth place Ireland, w/parents William Lisk and Sarah, no maiden name.; From credible
secondary source, Sarah's maiden name was Johnston; Census 1920 Enfield, MA., age 64,
widower, birth place Ireland; 1900 Census Enfield, MA., age 46, birth place Ireland; S103,
book implies Frank would be from Northern Ireland, also he was a member of The Bethel
Lodge of Masons. See additional sources.
Marriage: Nov 21, 1879 Enfield, MA., M/C from dcr/mdc for drowned Town of Enfield, MA.,
Spouse Ellen Johnston; Census 1900 Enfield, MA., with Ellen; S103, states he married
Eleanor Johnston of Greenwich, MA.
Death: Unknown, 1938 or later. S103 implies Frank was living in East Longmeadow, MA. in
1938 the year Enfield, MA. was flooded for the use of Quabbin Reservoir.
Additional sources : The probable Civil Marriage Registration extract 1845 - 1868 Ireland
of 60p with record names on page of Sarah Johnston, George Johnston, William Lisk, and
Elizabeth Jane Briggs.
Comments: One secondary source shows Frank's middle name as "Robert". B/Rs of brothers
Thomas, George, and sister Elizabeth with age matches to the 1880 Enfield census are found
in Ireland, Birth and Bap., 1620 - 1911, to William and Sarah Lisk, Armagh Ireland.
31p Elanor Johnston

Marriage Int.: Nov 20/23? 1802, MI Ludlow.
Marriage: Nov 25, 1802 M/R Ludlow; S101, married Lucy Jones, no date; D/R for Lucy Miller shows Moses Miller as spouse (after her parents names, hard to read).
Death: April 15, 1855 Ludow, MA., D/R age 76.
Additional sources include: Census 1850 Ludlow, MA.; S107; S108.
Comments: M/R Ludlow March 2[1?], 1846 to widow Mrs. Sarah Fuller age 53. Moses age 67. (Father Leonard Miller, no parents shown for Sarah aka Sally from S101)
33p Lucy Jones
Birth: May 15, 1784 Somers CT., B/R no mother's maiden name; S101 parents full names (wrong birth year but correct with May 15); D/R age 60/8/29 on Feb 14, 1845, birth place Somers, CT., shows Dea. Stephen Jones and mother as "Anna" but Lucy's own B/R shows "Lucy" and younger brother Simeon Jones D/R shows Lucy as his mother, "Anna" no doubt a nickname or middle name of Lucy Cooley her mother. Moses was the probable informant on the death record of Lucy (Jones) Miller. Moses name as spouse is shown to the right of her parents names on the D/R.
Marriage: see spouse above.
Death: Feb 14, 1845 Ludlow, MA., D/R.
Additional Sources include: S107; S108.
Comments: Named first child "Lucy Cooley" obviously after her mother, S101.
34p Jason Walker
Birth: June 6, 1768 Belchertown, MA., Corbin, w/parents;
S110, son of # 68 in this tree; S145.
Marriage: Feb 22, 1799 Belchertown, MA., Corbin; S110;
S105, "wife" of Jason Walker; Anc.com original image.
Death: July 6, 1851, S110; Findagrave with slight date variations for him and wife.
Additional sources include: S105; Census 1850 Belchertown, MA., age 83.
35p Elizabeth (Betsey) McIntosh

36p Micah King JR.
Birth: 1775 Enfield, CT., Grave Stone North Somers Cemetery, age 77 on July 9, 1852;
S102, born 1775 no mother's maiden name; M/Int. w/ Micah "Junior".

Birth: Aug 5, 1779, Somers CT., B/R w/Israel and "Ruth", no maiden name (w/twin Jerusha); Census 1860 Ludlow, MA., age 80 w/son Marvin's household.
Marriage: see spouse above.
Death: Sept. 9, 1864, buried North Somers Cemetery, age 85.
Additional Sources include: S111; 1855 Longmeadow, Ma., State Census.
Comments: I am not sure who "Ruth" mother of Ruth is. Ruth's father Israel married "Rachel Wright" from M/R's for Somers, Ct., The name "Ruth" is on the grave stone of Israel's wife. S102 states her mother was Ruth Roberts daughter of Seth Roberts of Middletown, CT.. S112 states her mother was Ruth Wright daughter of Samuel Wright of Somers. S111 states that Israel married Rachel Wright and then married second Ruth (Unknown last name) and Ruth Unknown is the mother of this # 37. All three sources seem to be credible so I am a bit surprised to find these contradictions. I find no record of death for Rachel (Wright) Spencer, and no record of a marriage of Israel to a "Ruth". I find no record of a "Ruth" daughter of a Seth Roberts. My opinion is I think it's a bit more likely that "Ruth" is Rachel Wright but I certainly am not sure of that.
38p Josiah Alden
Birth: about 1773 Bridgewater, MA., S104; S105; Census 1850 Ludlow, MA., age 77, w/second wife Sally Houghton aka Widow Sally Bates; M/C from Town of Wales, MA.,
w/parents names; D/R w/ place of birth "Bridgewater".

40p Montgomery White
Birth: Aug 19, 1792 Granby or Chester, MA., South Hadley Cemetery, age 82 Dec. 30, 1874; S113, w/date, w/parents; D/R w/age 82 in 1874, w/parents but no mother's maiden name; S101 w/birth error 17 '89'; Census 1860 South Hadley, MA., age 67; Census 1870 South Hadley, MA., age 78; Anc.com Granby images of Samuel White & Eunice family w/Montgomery born Aug 19, 1792.

Death: Dec 30, 1874, D/R; South Hadley, Evergreen Cemetery, age 82 Dec 30, 1874.
Additional sources: 1855 South Hadley, Ma., State Census.
Comments: D/R shows his place of birth as Granby. S113 shows his pob as Chester, A., 1810 census shows them in Chester, MA., Montgomery's mother, Eunice died 1795 and is buried in Granby.
41p Roxanna Howard
Birth: about 1793 South Hadley, MA., D/R w/parents and p.o.b., no father's first name,
age 80 in Feb 1873; Census 1860 South Hadley, MA., age 67; Census 1870 South Hadley,
MA., age 77; South Hadley Cemetery, Evergreen Cemetery, Died Feb 26, 1873 age 80.
Marriage: see spouse above.
Death: Feb 26, 1873, MVR's, D/R, age 80 in Feb 1873; South Hadley Cemetery, Evergreen
Cemetery Feb 26, 1873, age 80.
Additional sources: 1855 South Hadley, Ma., State Census.
Comments: Her D/R showing her as being born in South Hadley may be wrong. Her sister Mary (Howard) Damon's D/R in South Hadley shows Mary as being born in Deerfield, MA., abt 1794. If Roxanna's and sister Mary's father Frederick is indeed the same Frederick Howard found in Rowe, MA, Census of 1790, then Roxanna may have been born in Deerfield or Rowe, MA.. Roxanna's mother Naomi joined the South Hadley Church in 1795.
42p Willis Keyes
Birth: March 1793, Ludlow, MA., D/R w/age, 77/10/0 on Jan 15, 1871, w/parents, w/place of birth; S101 w/wrong dates compared with the D/R; Census 1850 Ludlow MA., age 57; Census 1860 Springfield, (Wilbraham P.O.) age 67; Census 1870 Ludlow MA., age 77, w/Angeline daughter.
Marriage: Sept. 16, 1819 Ludlow, MA., M/R Ludlow; S114; Census 1850 Ludlow w/Chloe and her older brother Elias Frost.
Death: Jan. 15, 1871, D/R; Grave stone Ludlow Center Cemetery.
Comments: Willis was no doubt named after his mother's first cousin Wyllis Russell. Wyllis Russell was son of Anna Russell's brother Ebenezer who also came to Wilbraham/Springfield.
43p Chloe Frost
Birth: Sept. 30, 1798 Ludlow, MA., B/R Ludlow, (Samuel Frost and Elizabeth); S115 w/date, w/parents; S114, w/parents; D/R age 52 on Feb 13, 1851; w/"Samuel and Martha Frost", Martha? nickname?, Census 1850 Ludlow, MA., age 52, living w/spouse and older brother Elias Frost.
Marriage: see spouse above.
Death: Feb 13, 1851 Ludlow MA., D/R; Grave stone Ludlow Center Cemetery.
Comments: Her D/R shows Samuel Frost and "Martha" as mother. Older brother Elias shows his mother as a 'Nash' (can't read first name). From S114 "Mrs. Elizabeth Frost" (Nash) died March 17, 1812. Could only be Elizabeth, Martha may be a nickname, middle name, bad memory or lack of knowledge of the informant. Now have original B/R with parents Samuel and Elizabeth Frost.
44p Jonas Pike
Birth: May 25, 1777 Sturbridge, MA., B/R; S135, w/parents.
Marriage: May 30, 1804 Sturbridge, MA., M/R, Shows Jonas as being of Windham, CT.; The records also show that He and Peggy named a daughter "Mary Howard" obviously after his mother Mary Howard of Sturbridge, MA.
Death: Unknown.
Comments: B/R of their daughter shows "Mary H.", D/R the same day shows "Mary
Howard". The B/R is from MVR's discs, Sturbridge births page 54. The D/R is from NEHGS
web site, Sturbridge deaths page 365.
45p Peggy Turner (aka Margaret from Sturbridge Records)
Birth: June 26, 1780 Medfield, MA., B/R, No mother's maiden name.
Marriage: see spouse above.
Death: Jan 2, 1848 Sturbridge, MA., D/R age 67.
Additional Sources include: S148; S149
Comments: D/R age fits her birth, also there is a record of an Edward (Clark) Turner in the Sturbridge and Medfield Records. Both Peggy and this Edward married Pike siblings in Sturbridge. Edward is from Medfield and removed to Sturbridge. Edward and Peggy both descend from Joseph Clark of Dedham and Medfield. Also S148 shows Peggy (aka Margaret) was a member of The Sturbridge Congregational Church of Christ first named after "New Medfield"! Peggy's Great Grandfather Ezra Clark of Medfield owned estate in Sturbridge as of his death in 1739. Need I say more? Peggy became a member of the church sometime between 1824 and 1826. She was a member as of 1843. The town of Sturbridge was first called New Medfield.
46p Capt. Daniel Prince (British Soldier P.O.W. escaped to the American side, S146)
Birth: May 1, 1755 England, S142 w/father; S117; Census 1880 Ludlow, MA., for Eunice Prince w/father's place of birth.
Marriage: Sept., 16 1817 in Hartford, CT., M/R "Capt. Daniel Prince, & Mrs. Huldah Flint";
First wife Mary Packard, a Mayflower Descendant, died 1816. Eunice # 23 born 1818 was half sister of a James (Flint) shown along with herself in a Baptism record. Eunice baptised to Daniel Prince (Daniel Prince The First, see Spring. VRs by Clifford L. Stott, "Dan1 Prince" for daughter Eunice's bapt.) and James baptised to a Mrs. Prince (# 47), S140.
Death: April 23, 1828, S140.
Additional sources: S146; Census for Williamsburg, MA. and Springfield, MA. for him and his sons; Various records showing Daniel JR. born in Williamsburg could not have been Eunice's father.
Comments: Daniel was about 63 years of age at Eunice's birth in 1818. One of his D/R's in Springfield VR's by Clifford L. Stott confirm history that Daniel was a Captain matching his Boston Newspaper, and Hartford Courant M/R which shows "Capt. Daniel Prince of Springfield", and Mrs. Huldah Flint in Hartford. Captured British soldier and P.O.W.
47p Huldah Bull (Mrs. Huldah Flint)
Birth: March 16, 1780 Litchfield, Ct., B/R w/prnts no mother's maiden name; M/R of prnts.
w/mother's maiden (name?).
Marriage: see spouse above, 1st married Joshua Flint, M/R "Huldah Bull of Litchfield", Ct.,
to Joshua Flint of Wethersfield, Ct..
Death: unknown.
Comments: I notice some people show her as having married second Daniel Pierce, this no doubt is a transcription error for Prince which I found in at least one record. This is proven by Boston Newspapers showing "Capt. Daniel Prince of Springfield", along with all the other facts. Some people show her as having married Daniel JR., which is an error also.
48p Elijah Ames
Birth: about 1794 (possibly May 28, 1794 Williston, VT.), Census 1850 Chesterfield, N.Y. age
56 born Can.; Census 1860 Ausable, N.Y. age 67 born Vermont; (secondary source shows date and place of birth in Williston, VT.)
Marriage: unknown, but secondary source shows spouse as Matilda Day. Census 1850 Chesterfield, N.Y. w/Susanna; Census 1860 Ausable, N.Y. w/Matilda
Death: probably after 1860.
Additional sources include: Census 1820 Jay, N.Y.; Census 1830 Peru, N.Y.; Census 1840
Chesterfield, N.Y.; Also the census of every other Ames in the area for this same time period. S106 (no relation to William Ames of Braintree).
Comments: As with most of the other census from this area of N.Y. in this compilation, yet
again we have contradictions. Conflicting birth place and spouse's name for Elijah. The 1850,
and 1860 census's above, show a son Robert age 19 and 29. They both show an apparent
spouse two years older than Elijah. I assume "Susanna" is a nickname or middle name for Matilda. The above secondary source was from someone's family tree. I believe it is accurate. As far as I could confirm this source, it appears they had much knowledge of the facts.
49q Matilda Day
Birth: probably about 1792, Middletown, VT., Census 1860 Ausable, N.Y., age 69; secondary
source mentioned above.
Marriage: see spouse above.
Death: unknown.
Comments: I believe Matilda is most likely the same person as the "Susanna" seen in Elijah's
1850 Census of Chesterfield, N.Y., they are both aged 2 years older than Elijah and shown along with son Robert aged 19 and 29. Secondary source mentioned for Elijah above also shows Matilda as being the mother of Jeremiah Ames born around 1820. This source appears to be accurate. Note: # 24 Norman Ames named his first daughter "Susan M" from 1850 Ausable Census.
52p Charles Smith (Pvt. Civil War)
Birth: about 1817 in (Acworth?) New Hampshire, Charles birth place is consistent in his 1880 census and in his son's 1880, 1900, and 1910 census, (consistency was a rarity in the census in that area of N.Y.!) age 63 in 1880 census; Grave Stone died June 25, 1885, "age 68 yrs" , Jay Central Cemetery, from ancestry.com image.
Marriage: probably before 1850 Census Jay, N.Y., (married second Eleanor O'brien).
Death: June 21, 1885, Grave Stone in Jay Central Cemetery.
Comments: Charles Grave Stone shows him in the same regiment as son Ransom in the Civil
War "Pri. Co. M. 2nd Reg. NYV." A secondary web source has Charles age apparently transcribed wrong from his stone, date of death 18'2'5. 18'8'5 is correct. Charles is buried next to George O'Brien and Martha (Bennett) (White) O'Brien. Charles being the father in law of Emma Colby who is granddaughter of Martha (Bennett) (White) O'Brien. Charles also marries 2nd Eleanor O'Brien daughter of George O'Brien. "Eleanor" age 14 in 1850 census of George O'Brien and "Margaret", next to the household of John R Colby and Syrena. In the 1880 census of Charles and Eleanor it states she was born in NY and her father was born in Ireland while her mother was born in Maine which fits with Martha Bennett.
Check this out > 1865 N.Y. State Census with the whole gang! See the next page too.
53p Jane Miller
Birth: N.Y., possibly about 1825, Census 1850 Jay, N.Y.; Children Ransom and Beulah's census show their mother born in N.Y.
Marriage: see spouse above.
Death: possibly before 1860, Census 1860 Jay, N.Y., of Charles (she is not there). New info: Findagrave
Comments: From son Ransom's D/C, she is shown as Jane Miller, "Miller" is hard to read but after comparing the writing style on the record it becomes quite clear. Apparently next door to Jane and Charles is a Benjamin Miller and wife Mary and family in the 1850 Jay census. The Census of 1850 Jay, N.Y. shows Jane age 25. The age for Charles shows 20 years which should be an error. Also it appears the ages for Ransom and brother Edward were swapped. It is not easy to be sure of the correct facts with all the errors in the Jay census. Ransom named his first daughter Jane most likely after his mother. The only two possible parental families for Jane found in Jay of the proper age, IF her parents were even living there, are Rev. James and Helen Miller, James was born in Scotland and was of the Presbyterian Church, or, the second possible parent is a "Jane" Miller one year age difference in age from Rev. James Miller, she is living with a Murphy family in Jay. This Jane in the Murphy home shows a boy apparently named Benjamin, (her grandson maybe?) There are 3 other families named Miller in Jay that 'might' be related. First Benjamin Miller's family apparently next door to our 53p Jane. He has a daughter named 'Harriet'. A Stephen Miller family with a daughter named 'Harriet'. Finally on the same page as Benjamin is a Joseph Miller with a wife named 'Harriet'. The three might be all brothers/cousins, possibly sons of the Rev. James or even the older Jane. This older Jane I would guess might be sister or sister-in-law to Rev. James Miller. Need more info.
Note: It is possible that Ransom Smith's sister Beulah was daughter to Charles 2nd wife Eleanor O'brien, but when Beulah was age 2 (age 2 from census but born 2/7/1856 from her gravestone transcription) and Jane is missing from the 1860 census, Eleanor "O'brien" is simply listed last as doing domestic work. Only later in the 1870 census it appears Eleanor and Charles are married. Syrena White is a half sister to Eleanor O'brien. Eleanor and Syrena both being daughters of Martha Bennett. Eleanor's father was born in Ireland while Martha was born in Maine.
Birth: about 1823 (Vermont, N.Y., N.H.???) Census 1850 Wilmington, N.Y., age 27; Census
1860 Jay, N.Y., age 36, place of birth Vermont; Census 1870 Jay, N.Y. age 53! place of birth
N.Y.!, children in household prove along with spouse that this is the same family as in the 1860
census of Jay, N.Y., but the ages shift for some unexplainably!; Jay Central Cemetery old

any Lexington, N.H.), from The Adirondack Record Newspaper Aug 29, 1919; Native State Vermont form 1875 State of N.Y. Census d/r.
Marriage: probably about 1845, Census 1850 Wilmington, N.Y., w/son John age 4, w/spouse;

Death: May 19, 1875 Jay, N.Y., Old Central Cemetery "John R. Colby 1823 - 1875"; Essex County Newspaper from Northern N.Y. Library Network Newspaper search engine, John Colby died 1875 from Typhoid Fever; 1875 State Census record of death right hand page; Findagrave
Additional sources include: A Colby website; secondary rootsweb info.
Comments: Rumors and Family Oral Histories have it that John Russell Colby and Syrena White have Native American Indian blood. From these 'rumors' and also photos of some of the close relatives I believe the stories to be true with little doubt. Even way back in the 1800s a Northern New York State Newspaper article was written stating there was very little pure Mohawk blood left on a Mohawk reservation as they had bred with the French Canadians in that region for quite some time. So it should not come as any great surprise.
55p Syrena White
Birth: May 1828/9 Grand Isle VT., Old Central Cemetery, Jay, N.Y., w/1828; Census 1900 North Elba, N.Y., w/May 1829, age 71, birth place Vermont; D/C with parents, born "on an Island near Plattsburg, N.Y.", age 77; "Native of Grand Isle Vermont", from The Adirondack Record Newspaper Aug 29, 1919.
Marriage: see spouse above.
Death: Sept. 10, 1905, p.o.d. Lake Placid village of North Elba, D/C; Old Central Cemetery, Jay, N.Y., 1905. Findagrave
Additional Sources include: 1850 Census Wilmington, N.Y.; Census 1860/70/80 Jay, N.Y.

Rumors and Family Oral Histories and circumstantial evidence have it that John Russell Colby and Syrena White have Native American Indian blood. (56aq) George Washington Downing born 1812 Enfield, MA (MVRs m July 4, 1846,d) (NEHGR 1935 pge 224)
(56bq) Reuben Sherman Lazell born abt 1814 at Ware, MA Died "abt 1845" Peoria, ILL (MVR's m) (NEHGR 1935 pge 224) (Need his D/R to confirm who is father of # 28p).
57p Olive Aldrich
Birth: Jan 1812/14 Belchertown, MA., NEHGR 1935 pge 224, w/parents; Belchertown Stone House Museum Index, w/Jan 8, 1812; D/R w/parents, no mother's maiden names.
Marriage: 1st to Reuben Lazell, Corbin Hampshire, Intention May 15, 1838 Ware, MA.;
M/R Palmer, MA., May 17, 1838.
Marriage: 2nd to George Washington Downing, M/R, July 4, 1846 Enfield, MA.
Death: April 6, 1887, Enfield, MA., D/R.
Additional Sources: 1855, 1865 Enfield, Mass., State Census; 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880 Enfield, Mass., U.S. Census.
Comments: I need the exact date of death of first husband Reuben Lazell to determine which husband was the father of her son Francis Smith Downing. All records show Francis as a Downing. Olive's marriage only one month before the birth of her son Francis, casts serious doubt. Reuben is said to have died about 1845, which is much to vague a date.
58p Joel Mathews
Birth: about 1810 probably Mount Vernon, ME., Census 1810 Mt Vernon, ME; Census 1820
Madison, ME., Census 1830 St. Albans, ME; Census 1840 St. Albans, ME., age 20 - 30
bracket; Census 1850 St. Albans, ME., age 39 w/parents on the same Farm, place of birth "ME"; Census 1860 St. Albans, ME; Census 1880 St. Albans, ME., age 70; 1870 Census Saint Albans, ME., age 59.
Marriage: Dec 25, 1839 St. Albans, ME., Marriage Int. Dec 1, 1839 along with Phillip Powers
of Pittsfield and Sophronia Mathews of St. Albans., ST. Albans VR's; M/R Dec 25, 1839
"Mr Joel Matthews to Miss Elisabeth P. Noble", again along with Phillip Powers of Pittsfield
and Sophronia Mathews of St. Albans, St Albans VR's; Census 1860 St. Albans, ME., shows
Joel Mathews and Elizabeth P. along with identifying children # 29 Mary and sister Ida both
found later in Enfield, MA Census of 1880 in same house; 1870 Census Joel & Elizabeth etc.
Death: 1880 or later. Census 1880 St. Albans, ME., age 70.
Additional sources include: S116
Comments: Joel's father has two sons under 10 years of age in the 1810 census of Mount
Vernon, ME., then in 1820 the census of Madison still shows 2 sons 10 years older. It looks
like Joel was born in Mount Vernon, ME. in 1810 (maybe late 1810).
59p Mary Elizabeth Noble (aka Elizabeth P. Noble, aka Elizabeth P. Mathews)
Birth: Oct 12, 1817 Fairfield, ME., B/R in Canaan, ME. VR's, no mother's maiden name;
S116; Census St. Albans, ME., 1850 age 32, 1860 age 42, 1870 age 52, 1880 age 62.
Marriage: see spouse above.
Death: about 1880 or later. Census St. Albans, ME., 1880 age 62.
Comments: Her mother, Elizabeth (Powers) Noble is seen next to Mary's household in the
Census of 1850 St. Albans, ME. living with her brother Jonathan Powers and mother Widow
Margaret (Hood) Powers. Also an apparent son Riley Noble age 15, and Jonathan's apparent
son Levi age 6, Levi's mother is missing but she is probably Jonathan's wife from M/R in
ST. Albans VR's 1842 to MRS. Belinda Mathews. Belinda must be the Belinda Adams from
source S116. 1870 Census Saint Albans, ME., now shows her mother in the same house
"Elizabeth Noble".
60p William Lisk
Birth: about 1824 Northern Ireland. Census 1880 Enfield, MA age 56, place of birth Ireland;
S103 implies his son Francis would be from Northern Ireland; credible secondary source
w/parents and more; sisters D/R in Enfield, MA., w/parents.
Marriage: 1848 in Drum Kree Church Portadown, Armagh County, Northern Ireland. From a
credible secondary source but may have errors.
Death: Unknown.
Additional sources: Message board with wife Sarah's last name of "Johnson" but shows father
as William born 1803 (married Sarah Stevenson from another message), however 120 is John
Lisk not William. Unless he was known as William John or John William ???
61p Sarah Johnston
Birth: about 1830 Ireland, probably Northern Ireland. Census 1880 Enfield, MA., age 50, place
of birth Ireland; credible secondary source w/parents.
Marriage: see spouse above.
Death: Unknown.
Comments: Last name from a credible secondary source only; "Sarah" also shown on son's
M/C.
62p James Johnston
Birth: Ireland, from Census of daughter 1900 Enfield, MA; D/R of daughter # 31p.
Marriage: Unknown
Death: Unknown
63p Marguetta (Margaret) Grah(am?)
Birth: Ireland, from Census of daughter 1900 Enfield, MA; D/R of daughter # 31p.
Marriage: Unknown
Death: Unknown
Comments: I am fairly sure of the spelling of "Graham" from # 31p death record.
I have weak evidence that it might be "Gilpin" but it does not look that way from
D/R of # 31p.

GENERATION SIX 60% of this generation found below
=====================================================================
64p Serg. Leonard Miller (PATRIOT A.R.)
Birth: Mar 28, 1752 (West) Springfield, MA., Springfield VR's B/R to Joseph Miller Jr. and
Katherine, no mother's maiden name; S101, w/parents; M/R of parents w/mother's maiden
name; D/R of son Moses shows Leonard's place of birth as West Springfield.
Marriage: to Mary Sikes probably before the birth of his first child 1778, S101 w/wife's maiden name, and grave stone inscription, "Mrs. Mary wife of Mr Leonard Miller died in childbed in the 38th year of her age Befides a birth and fhe left 8 fmall Children to mourn her untimely fate".
Death: Oct 20, 1820 D/R Ludlow; S101 1820 not 1828; Daughters of The American Revolution have his grave stone listed in Fuller Cemetery Ludlow Center, MA. (Findagrave)
Additional sources include: Census records for Ludlow, MA.; S118; Corbin Hampshire
County 2nd marriage to Sarah Kellogg 1791; S120; S141.
Comments: A repeated error seen in some books shows Sarah Kellogg as Leonard's first wife but the records prove otherwise. Leonard's birth record is in Springfield, and Ludlow was still part of Springfield in 1752. His parents and family migrated to The future Town of Ludlow in 1752. I doubt Leonard was actually born in Ludlow as the birth date of March 28 was still quite early to be traveling the roughly 12 miles through "the wilderness" to Ludlow. Serg. in Capt. Keep's co., Col. Sheppard's regt. Leonard's brother "Dr. Aaron John Miller" was known to be a member of the Boston Tea Party.
65p Mary Sikes
Birth: March 2, 1753 Brimfield, MA., B/R no mother's maiden name; M/R of parents Benjamin Sikes of Brimfield and Mary Sikes of Springfield".
Marriage: see spouse above.
Death: June 6, 1790 Ludlow, MA., S101 grave stone inscription 38th year.
Additional sources: S107; S108; S119; S141.
Comments: She was also known as Polly as found in S101, She was the oldest child of her
parents and born in Brimfield, MA.. The rest of her brothers and sisters births can be found
in Springfield VR's. Ludlow was not separate from Springfield until about 1774. # 32 Moses
Miller named two daughter's "Mary Sikes", the first one died young. Note: Findagrave shows
the wrong birth date for Mary, notice "June 6th" same as death month and day. Stone
reads she died in her 38th year (1790 - 38 = 1752) actual birth date March 2, 1753.
66p Capt. Dea. Stephen Jones (PATRIOT A.R.)
Birth: June 27, 1750 Somers, CT., B/R no mother's maiden name; M/R of parents w/mother's
maiden name; S101.
Marriage: Dec 22 or 28, 1779 Somers, CT., M/R; S101.
Death: Jan 2 or 3, 1828 Ludlow, MA., S101; S121 w/his grave stone listed in Ludlow Center Cemetery next to the Congregational Church; Anc.com, Ludlow original images of (?) w/Jan 3, 1828, "Deacon Stephen Jones".
Additional sources include: NEHGR 1881 pge 27; One Branch of The Booth Family pge 141.
67p Lucy Cooley
Birth: May 11, 1759 Somers, CT., B/R no mother's maiden name; S101; M/R of parents w/mother's maiden name.
Marriage: see spouse above.
Death: July 15, 1808 Ludlow, MA., S101.
Additional sources include: NEHGR 1881 pge 27.
68p Capt. James Walker (PATRIOT A.R.) (FRENCH WAR)
Birth: Nov 15, 1732 Weston, MA., B/R no mother's maiden name; M/R of parents w/mother's
maiden name; S123 w/mother's maiden name.
Marriage: June 1, 1757 Sturbridge, MA., M/R.
Death: Nov 21, 1806 Belchertown, MA., D/R; Belchertown Gr. St. Inscription age "in 75th year"; DAR have his grave stone listed in Old Belchertown Cemetery.
Additional sources: S122; S110; S123; S105; S120; S139; S145
Comments: James married second, Widow Amy Saxton about one year after wife Esther's death. James born in Weston, later moved with his parents to Sturbridge. He later moved to Belchertown.
69p Esther Shumway
Birth: April 3, 1737 Sturbridge, MA., B/R no mother's maiden name; M/R of parents w/mother's maiden name.
Marriage: see spouse above
Death: May 14, 1786 Belchertown, MA., VR's S123; Belchertown Gr. St "50th year of age" S123
Additional sources: S110; S105; S145
70p Sergeant John McIntosh (PATRIOT A.R.)
Birth: Nov 22, 1751 Roxbury, MA., B/R no mother's maiden name; M/R of parents w/mother's
maiden name.
Marriage: Nov 9, 1775 Needham, MA., M/R; NEHGR 1901 pge 226; S123 w/Nov 22 (error) 1775; S110 w/Nov 22 (error).
Death: is Unknown
Additional sources include: S125; 1790 Census of Greenwich, MA.; S120
Comments: I suspect that this John McIntosh is the same person found in Greenwich and
Enfield drowned towns of Quabbin. He appears along with a William who may be his brother
from Needham MA.. 1790 Census of Greenwich matches Corbin Hampshire which shows he
had 2 daughters and one son. This looks to be the same John McIntosh who is shown in the
Greenwich and Hardwick records married to "Sarah Gross" in April 1788, about 7 months after
he and wife Elizabeth had their youngest son John. Elizabeth is shown as Not being deceased
until 1814 in Corbin Belchertown records and the Belchertown Museum Index. If not for this
death record for Elizabeth, I would have assumed she died after son John was born and this was the reason John married Sarah in 1788 and shows up just two years later with three apparently matching children in the Greenwich 1790 census. John and Elizabeth show a M/R in Needham on Nov 9, 1775 which is not supposed to be an intention of marriage. I guess someone transcribed John's birth of Nov 22 as his marriage date and it is being repeated.
71p Elizabeth Daggett
Birth: Sept. 28, 1752 Needham, MA., B/R no mother's maiden name; M/R of parents w/mother's maiden name.
Marriage: see spouse above.
Death: Oct 25, 1814 Belchertown, MA., S110; S123;
Additional sources include: S125
Comments: Elizabeth's brother Ebenezer, is found in Corbin, Belchertown records. He was born in Needham also and married Janet Patterson of the drowned town of Enfield, MA. The now drowned town of Enfield, MA., founded 1816 was formerly a part of Greenwich and Belchertown.
72p Pvt. Micah King (SR) (PATRIOT A.R.)
Birth: May 18, 1754 Enfield, CT., B/R, no mother's maiden name; M/R of parents w/mother's
maiden name; S102, w/parents names;
Marriage: unknown
Death: after Nov 29, 1814, S102
Comments: Also seen spelling as Micha King, and Micham King from Suffield Historical Society.
Additional sources include: S126; Census 1810 Norwich (now Huntington), MA.; S121.
73q Sarah
Birth: unknown
Marriage: see spouse above
Death: after Nov 29, 1814, S102
Comments: All that is known about Sarah is from S102 which shows she signed a deed in 1814 which does not prove she was mother of # 36 Micah JR.
Additional Sources include: S126
74p Israel Spencer
Birth: about 1748 probably Somers, CT., Grave Stone North Cemetery age 77 yrs Jan 22, 1825; S111 w/year and parents; S102 w/"Jonathan" father; S112 w/ "Jonathan" father; M/R of parents w/full names.
Marriage: Jan 15, 1772, M/R Somers, CT., w/Rachel Wright; S112 w/Ruth Wright (Jan 19, 1775); S102 w/Ruth Roberts; S111 w/Ruth 2nd wife, last name unknown and mother of # 37, 1st wife Rachel Wright married Jan 15, 1772.
Death: Jan 22, 1825, North Cemetery, Somers, CT., age 77 yrs.
Additional sources: Census 1810, 1820, 1830 all Longmeadow, MA.; NEHGR 1884 pge 49;
Comments: Israel named a twin of daughter Ruth, "Jerusha" obviously after Israel's mother.
Israel was no doubt named after his brother Israel who died 1747 age 7, the year before Israel was born.
75q Ruth (aka Rachel Wright???)
Birth: about 1747, Grave Stone North Cemetery, Somers, CT., 1817 age 70; Same but with Oct., 14, 1817 from S111; S112 "Ruth" w/father Samuel Wright of Somers, CT.; S102 "Ruth" w/father Seth Roberts of Middletown, CT..
Marriage: see spouse above.
Death: Oct 14, 1817 age 70 from S111; North Cemetery, Somers, CT., grave stone photo on the web at Find a Grave or findagrave.com, name Ruth 1817 age 70 Consort of Israel with now damaged stone.
Additional sources: NEHGR 1884 pge 49; B/R of a Ruth Wright to father Samuel of Durham, CT., bapt. Aug 9, 1747, but she may be the Ruth Wright who married Caleb Ives of Wallingford, Ct.; A secondary source shows a Rachel Wright born 1747 daughter of Benjamin Wright of Lebenon, CT., but she was supposed to have married other than Israel.
Comments: I am surprised to see all the above contradictions from such apparently credible sources. No doubt their is a simple explanation, but for now I can only speculate as to what that explanation may be.
76p Josiah Alden (PATRIOT A.R.)
Birth: May 26, 1738, B/R no mother's maiden name; S127 w/parents; S101; NEHGR 1959 pge 133 w/parents.
Marriage: Dec 24, 1761 Raynham, MA., M/R from Taunton, "Josiah Alden of Bridgewater" and "Bathsheba Jones of Raynham, in Raynham"; S127; S101; NEHGR 1959 pge 133; S124
Death: after 1800 and probably before 1810, Census 1800 South Brimfield, (Wales, MA.); S128, returned to Bridgewater 1807.

77p Bathsheba Jones
Birth: April 5, 1743, Raynham, MA., B/R w/no mother's maiden name; NEHGR 1959 pge 133
w/parents;
Marriage: see spouse above
Death: after March 29, 1791 and probably after 1800, Alden Kindred # ACW - 1765

Death: unknown, S128, vanished.
Additional sources include: S120
Comments: Said to have disappeared without a trace, S128. Robert's father was from "Cold Spring" later known as Belchertown. Robert Sr. moved to Brimfield, MA.. Wales was known as South Brimfield.
79p Mary Needham
Birth: Dec 9, 1746 Brimfield, B/R no mothers maiden name; S124 w/parents; S128 w/parents.
Marriage: see spouse above
Death: unknown
Comments: She married second John Shaw 1804
80p Samuel White (PATRIOT A.R.) (Captain War of 1812, (S143))
Birth: abt 1760 probably Granby or South Hadley, MA., S113 w/father "John"; D/R w age;
S120;
Marriage: June 8, 1786 at South Hadley, MA., Gr. St. of # 81 "wife of Samuel White";
S113 w/spouse
Death: Sept 6, 1830 Chester, MA., D/R age 70
Additional sources include: S129; Census of Granby MA., 1790; Census of Chester, MA.,
1810, 1820, 1830; S130; NEHGR 1867 pge 235
Comments: S113 states he enlisted in the Revolutionary War at age 16. This fits with a record
from S120 which shows his enlistment in 1775. Samuel married second Abigail Day, a cousin
of his first wife # 81. S143 with story of Samuel needing to stand on tip toe to stand muster at age 15. His Muster record shows he was under 5 feet tall.
81p Eunice Eastman
Birth: Nov 8, 1763 Granby, MA., S113 w/parents; Gr. St. age 32 in 1795
Marriage: see spouse above
Death: Nov 19, 1795 age 32nd year, West Cemetery, Granby, S123
Additional Sources include: NEHGR 1867 pge 235; S129;
82p Frederick Howard ( Frederic Howard )
Birth: May 12, 1764 Cumberland, R.I. (R.I. b, w/parents, no mother's maiden name) (Convincing circumstantial evidence that Frederick who married Naomi Alvord is one and the same as Frederick born in Cumberland R.I.) (parent's M/R with mother's maiden name)
Marriage Int.: May 2, 1789 Northampton VR's, S123;
Marriage: 1789 no further date from South Hadley Records under Northampton VR's, S123; also in South Hadley VR's, S123; Married July 2, 178'3' S131, (should be 178'9' from seperate records in S123 ) ; Daughter Mary Damon's D/R shows her birth abt 1794 in Deerfield, w/parents "Frederick & Naomi Howard"; "Naomi wife of Frederick Howard joined the South Hadley Church in 1795", m, "June 16, 1789" in South Hadley, S136;
Death: probably after 1794 the approximate year of birth of his daughter Mary (Howard) Damon in Deerfield, MA., from Mary's D/R and before 1807 the date of death of Naomi's 2nd husband, S136; can't be found in the 1800 census.
Comments: A Frederick Howard found in Rowe, MA., in the 1790 Census "2-0-1" meaning 2 white males over 16 and one female, almost certainly (I am certain) is this # 82. Frederick of Rowe, born in Cumberland R.I. in 1764, had an Aunt named Elizabeth who moved to and lived in South Hadley. Before removing to South Hadley she married John Stickney of Stoughton, MA., she died and John Stickney then married Lucy (Nash) Alvord. This Lucy (Nash) Alvord first married Azariah Alvord who was a first cousin to # 83. More importantly in the South Hadley records is the marriage of a Lucy Howard and Richard Church both of South Hadley. This Lucy is a proven sister of Frederick of Rowe, named Lucinda. She too was born in Cumberland R.I.. Lucinda and brother Frederick, as children, moved with parents and family to Rowe, MA., (known as Myrifield at the time). Richard Church and Lucinda can be found in the Chester, MA VR's (in the "Boonies") with many children named in ways which confirm without any doubt that Lucinda was the sister of Frederick of Rowe, and niece of Elizabeth Stickney. In the 1800 census of Chester, Lucinda and Richard's family are apparently right next door (on the census page), to Benjamin Eastman born 1760 Granby, MA., a proven brother of # 81 Eunice Eastman, and Uncle of # 40 Montgomery White. Montgomery was either born in Chester or living in Chester shortly after birth, he marries # 41 Roxy Howard daughter of Frederick Howard and Naomi Alvord. In addition Frederick Howard who married Naomi Alvord, and Lucy Howard who married Richard Church were both married by Rev. Joel Hayes in the same Church in South Hadley a little over one year apart. This is all quite convincing that Frederick of Rowe and # 82 are one and the same person as it is a bit to much to all be just a coincidence. See my Mayflower ancestry link for more info on Frederic Howard, or Frederick Howard.
83p Naomi Alvord
Birth: Oct 20, 1761 South Hadley, MA., B/R w/parents no mother's maiden name, S123; Easthampton Town History and Family Notes, w/mother's maiden name, S123; S131; S136
Marriage: see spouse above, m2 Samuel Dickinson who was born 1747 and died 1807.
Death: unknown
Additional sources include: 1820 Census Granby, MA., "Naomi Dickinson" all alone.
Comments: Naomi joined the South Hadley Church in 1795. Daughter Mary (Damon) was born about 1794 in Deerfield from her death record in South Hadley, Ma.. It appears that after Naomi married Frederick in 1789 in South Hadley they moved North. (Probably to Rowe, MA., as the 1790 census fits) Daughter Mary (Damon) was born abt 1794 in Deerfield, Ma, from her death record. Roxanna's death record shows Roxy born in South Hadley abt 1793, which may be correct or may be an informant error and Roxy may have been born in Deerfield or even Rowe, Ma.
84p Jonas Keyes (Patriot A.R.)
Birth: Sept 28, 1764? or 1761? Princeton, MA., B/R transc., "Jon'e's" Keyes w/parents; S152 w/ age 75 in 1836, = 1761; S115 points out a nearby First Church of Holden, MA., bapt. record Oct 7, 1765 for "Jonas" son of Timothy.
Marriage Int.: March 6, 1789 Springfield, MA., Springfield VR's "Jonas of Ludlow"
Marriage: March 26, 1789 Springfield MA., Springfield VR's, "Jonas of Ludlow"; S115
Death: Nov 26, 1836 Wilbraham, MA., S115; same and age 75 from S152;
Additional sources include: S120; 1790 Springfield census.
Comments: It appears from S120 that Jonas served in some capacity for the Revolution at ages 11 & 13..., OR maybe NOT. S152 would make him about 3 years older, or 14 & 17.
Brother Lemuel Keyes is also found in Ludlow records.
85p Delana Parker
Birth: No doubt to parents Enos Parker and Anna Russell.
Marriage: see spouse above
Death: possibly 1827 or earlier, as Jonas (of Wilbraham) married 2nd, Sally Ingells (Ingalls) 1827. Int., April 12, 1827 Springfield, VR's, (Delana's D/R might be with the Town of Wilbraham or Ludlow)
Comments: Delana's parents are proved with extensive circumstantial evidence. I am certain Delana Parker is daughter of Enos and Anna (Russell) Parker. I am just as certain that the Hibbert Genealogy is correct that Anna who married Enos Parker was daughter of Ebenezer Russell and Susannah Russell.
Additional sources include:
Enos Parker from Springfield VR's is also seen as Zenas Parker on NEHGS Springfield VR's disc. "Enos" from the records, and "Zenas" from his Gr. St. trans. from the NEHGS Springfield VR's disc. The D/R and the G.S. have the same date of death and age so Zenas and Enos are the same person. Enos and wife Anna are buried in Maplewood Cemetery also known as The Sixteen Acres Burying Gounds. Anna was the first to be buried there. Parker Street on which this cemetery is located is named for this family. Also two newspapers from the disc report the same death, one with "Enos" and the other with "Zenas" or "Zenos". Zenas JR., (D/R on NEHGS website with parents Enos Parker and Anna) helped locate the survey for Parker St., in 1796 aged 84 in 1860. Enos (Zenos) Parker SR. no doubt father of Delana died July 18, 1821 age 82 or 83. From Encyclopedia of Massachusetts, Delana's grandson, William Leroy Keyes son of #42 Willis Keyes, bought land on what is now Parker Street. Anna (Russell) Parker's age at death fits with her birth age given in T.B. Warrens Springfield Families as daughter of Ebenezer Russell.
Descendants of William Russell of Salem is found on Google Books. Snippets show Zenos Parker, Anna Russell, Ebenezer Russell all on page 28.
The Descendants of Henry Hibbert, on line and not sourced, shows Anna as daughter of Ebenezer Russell and wife of Enos Parker.
The Conn. Nutmegger of June 2003 shows Ebenezer Russell and "Timothy Nash" who is likely # 348 in this tree, witnessing a will together in Windsor in 1754 the same year Timothy's son Joel # 174 is married in Windsor. # 174 and # 348 are ancestors of Delana's daughter in law "Chloe (Frost) Keyes" # 43 in this tree. Chloe's mother, # 87 in this tree, Elizabeth (Nash) Frost was born in Windsor 1757.
From Findagrave website in this same Maplewood Cemetery are the graves of Ebenezer Russell brother of Anna Russell, and Oren Keyes son of Jonas Keyes and Delana Parker.
1790 Springfield Census shows "Jonas Keyes" on the same page with "Enos Parker". No other Keyes or Parker names are found on this census or on the Wilbraham census. "Ebenezer Russell" is found in the 1790 Wilbraham Census. Timothy Keyes is found in the 1790 Ludlow Census with no Parker or Russell surnames.
Found in the records are what appear to be 4 children of Enos and Anna (Russell) Parker. All named as to seemingly identify their parents, Zenas (D/R with parents), Russell, Anna, and my Delana (Spanish contraction for "of the Anna"). If not the children of Enos Parker, then who? The records show no one else who fits at all. Everything found consistently points to Enos Parker and Anna Russell as Delana's parents.
If all that isn't enough Delana names son Willis (# 42 in this tree), no doubt after her first cousin Wyllis Russell, son of her Uncle Ebenezer Russell JR. who also came to Wilbraham/Springfield. Delana named another child Harriet, same as her Uncle Ebenezer's daughter who married Harvey Butler. Delana's oldest son Oren (Orren Orrin) may have been named after Orren Dimick, the husband of Clarissa Russell who was another of Uncle Ebenezer's children. Ebenezer Russell SR. arrived with his family from Windsor/Ellington, Conn., about 1773. Wyllis Russell would have been about 3 years old and was born in East Windsor/Ellington. Delana would have been about the same age as Wyllis Russell.
See T.B. Warren's Springfield Families, printed by NEHGS, for more on Ebenezer Russell's children, (All 3 Ebenezers, SR, JR, and the youngest Col. Ebenezer Russell).
86p Samuel Frost
Birth: Sept. 15, 1740 Willington Ct., S109 w/parents no mother's maiden name; S124 with Samuel's grave stone and age 87 (not 82). With parents names under stone transcription.
Marriage: Sept 8, 1780, Ludlow M/R; S114; S101
Death: Aug. 29, 1827 Ludlow, MA., aged 87, S124 Findagrave photo
Comments: Samuel was married at least 3 times. First to Patience Hammond, second to Elizabeth Nash, and apparently Eunice Hitchcock third.
Samuel is of "East Windsor" when he marries first Patience Hammond in 1775.
Note: Findagrave showed his age as 82 but this is wrong. At first glance the age on the stone may look like 82 but it reads 87. Look closely at the blowup of his stone and compare the 87 to the date 1827 on the stone. The '2' in 1827 is etched distinctly different than the '7'. You will be able to see the age actually reads 87 and not 82 by comparing the styling of the numbers.
87p Elizabeth Nash
Birth: March 11, 1757 Windsor, CT., S114 w/parents; S109 w/parents, no mother's maiden name; S101w/parents.
Marriage: see spouse above
Death: March 17, 1812, Ludlow, MA. S114
Comments: Elizabeth may have been also known as Martha as seen on daughter Chloe's D/R.
"Elizabeth" on daughter Chloe's original B/R in Ludlow, Mass.
88p Jonas Pike
Birth: abt 1740 Leicester or Sturbridge, MA., S135, w/parents
Marriage: May 7, 1767 Sturbridge , MA., M/R; S135
Death: Feb 24, 1781 Sturbridge, MA., "of a Calcula", D/R; S135
89p Mary Howard
Birth: possibly about 1742 or 1743 from possible D/R, see comments below;
Possibly Feb 18, 1742 Dartmouth, MA., B/R?, w/(possible) parents "William and Mary".
Marriage: see spouse above
Death: unknown
Comments: Mary appears to be the "Widow" who marries Eliphalet Janes, Int./R Sturbridge VR's Jan 25, 1793, "Mary Pike". The M/R from Sturbridge Feb. 21, 1793 shows Mary Fiske and states "no intention recorded", and married in Holland (Ma.). The History of Holland page 263, shows from Holland VR's that Mary was indeed "Mary Pike" married on Feb. 21, 1793. So I conclude "Fiske" is an error. "Eliphalet" shows two D/R's, one for 1835 at the age of 93. Age = a birth about 1742. The other D/R for 1826 age 83. Age = a birth about 1743. I suspect one these D/R's for Eliphalet was actually for his wife or widow Mary (Howard) (Pike) Janes. The last child in the records born to Jonas and Mary, was son Jonas in 1777. Other children were David 1768, Ame 1770, Ephraim 1772, Jesse 1774. Mary has a few possible 'Howard lines' she may have decended from. One is a "William Howard" who died in Sturbridge, possibly from Little Compton, MA., (or R.I.). An Ebenezer Howard a possible brother is found in Sturbridge. His line probably goes back to John Howard (already in this tree) who is thought to have lived in the house of pilgrim Myles Standish. There is also a reasonable chance she came from a line of Howards who came to Sturbridge from Windham area of Ct.
90p George Turner (British Soldier and Deserter to the American side)
Birth: roughly 1746 probably England, Medfield, MA., D/R age "about 83" on Feb 10, 1829,
"A British deserter".
Marriage: Nov 20, 1777 Medfield, MA., M/R
Death: Feb 10, 1829, Medfield, MA., D/R age 83, "A British deserter and State pauper".
Comments: Turner family statements from secondary source state the belief that Margaret Turner a daughter of George Turner had married a "Pike" in Sturbridge. There is a M/R for Jonas Pike and Margaret (Peggy) in Sturbridge. Also this Margaret's date of birth in Medfield agrees with the age at time of death for Peggy Pike wife of Jonas. So no doubt it is all correct. See comments under # 45. Also more info can be found from a "rootsweb" secondary source showing a letter from a "sister in law", a sister of Ama (Ame). Be sure to see the story of George and Amy at Hometown Weekly.
91p Ame (Ama) Clark
Birth: Dec 4, 1751, Medfield, MA., B/R w/parents no mother's maiden name; M/R of parents
w/mother's maiden name.
Marriage: see spouse above
Death: Dec 28, 1813 Medfield, MA., D/R "wife of George"
92q Charles Prince
Birth: Unknown
Marriage: Unknown
Death: Unknown
Source: S142
94p George Macknish Bull (Patriot A.R.)
Birth: Sept. 26, 1749 Herwinton, Ct., B/R w/parents no mother's maiden name; M/R of
parents w/mothers maiden name.
Marriage: April 11, 1771 Litchfield, Ct., M/R; S137
Death: 5/25/1787, Index DAR
Comments: His middle name included in the records makes him easy to follow.
Willimantic Journal on-line shows an 1861 newspaper article of the death of a son of this # 94p. "George and Ruth (Catlin) Bull"; "Litchfield". With mention of settler Capt. Thomas Bull.
95p Ruth Catlin
Birth: about 1750, D/R w/age 39 in 1789;
Marriage: see spouse above
Death: Aug 13, 1789 Litchfield, Ct., D/R w/o George age 39
Additional sources: S137.
Comments: S137 shows an excellent fit for Ruth's possible parents, Isaac Catlin and Elizabeth Kilborn, as it shows they had a daughter named Ruth born about the correct time.
One source "Genealogy to the Seventh Generation of The Bidwell Family", 1884, by Edwin M Bidwell, shows Ruth Bidwell who marries George Bull. This is the second time I have come across this book in my searches. The first time was in reference to # 1517 of this tree in Generation 10. I have zero confidence in this source, you can read my opinion of this source there. If it were up to me I would have all records of the book burned.
96q Ezra Ames see Ezra Ames Page
110p Alonzo White
Birth: Vermont from daughter's 1900 census; England from D/C of daughter # 55.
Marriage: Alonzo White and Martha Bennett shown as parents on daughter's (# 55) D/C
Death: Unknown
Comments: Daughter Syrena's D/C states Alonzo was born in England, while Syrena's 1900 census states her father was born in Vermont. (I doubt Alonzo was born in England.)
111p Martha Bennett aka Patty Bennett
Birth: Nov 18, 1797 in Guilford, Maine. B/R (Patty) Guilford, Maine w/parents, Nathaniel and Rachel Bennett, no maiden name; M/R of Nathaniel Bennett and Rachel *Hannaford* in New Gloucester Aug 26, 1789; Both Syrena White's (# 55) 1900 census of North Elba, N.Y., and Martha's 1860 census of Jay, N.Y., show Martha's place of birth as Maine. Also # 55's D/C shows Martha's p.o.b. as "Maine";
Marriage: see spouse above
Death: Sept. 10, 1872, age 67/9/22 "Martha O'brien" buried in Jay Central Cemetery, Section 1. Findagrave
Comments: If not for Dereka Smith, Martha's ancestry may never have been found. Patty is an old nickname for Martha. Here is a link (link no longer works), Ancestors of Richard Joseph MARESH which has no sources but appears mostly correct, and look under # 100 for Patty and you can follow her full ancestry. Apparently Martha and siblings Robert and Rachel all went to Grand Isle Vermont at least for a while. It appears Martha was fudging her true age. Her grave stone age fits the month and day but not the year of her birth. The census is off too. Martha had a final marriage to George O'brien. Syrena (# 55) is living in the same building or on the same farm as Martha and George O'brien in the 1860 Jay, N.Y., census. Buried next to Martha and 2nd husband George O'Brien is #52 Charles Smith.
From here to 114p below are some notes I saved while searching for Martha's (Patty's) ancestry. It may be very confusing but it can help unravel some of the Nathaniel Bennett confusion.
Note: In Jay Central Cemetery is buried the wife of Nathaniel White, apparently not far from our Martha Bennett, this Nathaniel I believe had a son named Nathaniel Bennett White. This seems to confirm that the older Nathaniel would be a son of Martha Bennett and a brother of our Syrena White.
I thought the Maresh Genealogy linked above had the wrong parents for the Nathaniel Bennett who married Rachel Hannaford because in the New Gloucester VRs on Picton Press cd his M/R shows Nathaniel as "Jr?". Probably he was recorded as "Jr?' to differentiate him from his Uncle? The real "Jr" was of Rustfield (Norway) at the time of his marriage intention to Elizabeth Blake in New Gloucester records, so no need to list him as "Jr" in the New Gloucester records. For Nathaniel who married Rachel Hannaford to be son of Nathaniel and not Isaac would mean multiple history books on two separate towns would have to be wrong. It would mean the quote "brothers" of Guilford and the other "brothers" of Norway actually had cousin 'Nathaniel's mixed in. So certainly "Jr" was to differentiate him from his Uncle. In Anthony Bennett's will of Norway 1808 his admistrator is listed as "Nathaniel Bennett, brother". Anthony apparenty fell and landed on a broadhead axe in 1807.
This Nathaniel who marries Rachel Hannaford is certainly son of Isaac and Dorcas (Wharff) Bennett. ("Hannaford" from the written record and "Hunaford" from the typed copy record both on New Gloucester VR cds).
I will include some records I have found below from New Gloucester, Maine VRs and Gloucester, Massachusetts VRs.
Nathaniel Bennett "JR" ("JR." from marriage record, but was actually a son of Isaac and Dorcas Wharff). marries Rachel "Hannaford" Aug. 26, 1789 in New Gloucester, Maine. He was born Nov 19, 1766 in Gloucester to Isaac Bennett and Dorcas Wharff.
Nathaniel and Hannah Babson were married in Gloucester Mass Dec 4, 1766.
Nathaniel Bennett born 1770 in New Gloucester along with twin brother Anthony, and younger brother John are found on the New Gloucester V.R. cd as sons of Nathaniel and Hannah Bennett. (These were the brothers who went to Rustfield aka Norway).
Nathaniel Bennett of Rustfield and Elizabeth Blake of New Gloucester a marriage intention Oct. 9, 1793. Rustfield later became Norway, Maine.
Both of these Nathaniel Bennetts, the one who went to Guilford and the one who went to Norway were granddchildren of Anthony Bennett and Susanna Haskell. This Anthony was son of John and Elizabeth (Hibbert) Bennett. This John was son of Anthony and Abigail (name?) Bennett.
Search Google books and you will find that our Nathaniel went to Guilford along with brothers Isaac, and John. The other Nathaniel who has a marriage intention with Elizabeth Blake went to Norway (Rustfield) along with his brothers, twin Anthony and younger brother John.
More Info: From Documentary History of Guilford, Maine Sprague's Journal of Maine History Vol. 4 Aug, 1916
We find Rachel first wife of Nathaniel died Feb. 3, 1809; Hannah 2nd wife of Nathaniel died Aug 7, 1852; Nathaniel died Oct. 2, 1852; Also death records for apparent brothers Isaac and John and probably Joseph (or Joseph s/o John).
John Bennett's children are listed: Joseph Bennett, born in New Gloucester, Nov. 19th, 1795; David Bennett, born in Gray, Sept. 15th, 1797; John Bennett, Jr., born in N. Gloucester, Jan. 29th, 1799; Sally Bennett, Jr., born in New Gloucester, Aug. 29th, 1801; Eliphalet Wharff Bennett, born in New Gloucester, June 13, 1805; Thomas Wharff Bennett, born in the Township now Guilford, May 11th, 1808; Alanson Bennett, born in the Township now Guilford, Jan. 12th, 1811; Lysander Bennett, born in the Township now Guilford, January 8th, 1813.
New Gloucester VRs cd shows Marriage Intentions for John Bennett and Sally Wharff Dec. 28, 1793;
Above we see John Bennett of Guilford had a son born in 1797 in Gray the same year Patty was born.
Interesting also is Guilford has birth records for John Bennett's children, listing them as born in New Gloucester, but so far I have not been able to find them on the Picton Press cd for New Gloucester...... hhmmm...
From Historical collections of Piscataquis County Historical Society Vol. 1:
The 3 Bennett brothers Nathaniel, Isaac, and John (Capt. John) were among the first 7 settlers of Guilford. It states they were all born in "New Gloucester". But I find them in Gloucester, Massachusetts records all born to Isaac and Dorcas (Wharff) Bennett. I do not see their birth records in New Gloucester, Maine. The birth dates are off a bit in the book. It gives Nov. 19, 1768 while I find in Gloucester, Mass., Nov. 19, 1766 for Nathaniel. John shows Jan 29, 1773 in the book, while I find in Gloucester, Mass., Jan 30, 1773. Isaac shows Dec 8, 1770 in the book, while I find in Gloucester, Mass., Jan 8, 1771. Also the book states John died 1854 age 81 which equals a birth year of 1773 which is a match for son of Isaac and Dorcas (Wharff) Bennett. The book does not state who their parents are. They state that Nathaniel had 2 sons and 6 daughters with first wife Rachel who was born in North Yarmouth. This fits our Rachel Hannaford. Nathaniel's second wife was a widow of James Douglass and she was born in Lewiston, Maine. With this second wife, widow Douglass they had 4 sons and 2 daughters. The book shows Isaac with wife Peggy having 6 sons and 5 daughters. Peggy born May 29, 1771 in New Gloucester.
1790 New Gloucester, Maine census heads of family: Isaac Bennett 1 - 2 - 2; and nearby down the list and next to each other are Jonathan 3 - 0 - 8, and Nathaniel 4 - 2 - 7; way down the list is Francis Bennett 1 - 5 - 2; This Isaac, Jonathan, and Nathaniel should be brothers, and sons of Anthony and Susanna (Haskell) Bennett of Gloucester, Massachusetts. Isaac in the census would be father of the Guilford brothers. Nathaniel in the census would be father of the Norway brothers.
As far as Patty and her siblings, I do not find them on Picton Press New Gloucester, Maine cd images. The Deputy Town Clerk of New Gloucester informs me there is no record of Patty's birth. See New Info next >
New Info ************** > Patty Bennett's birth record has been found under Maine Births and Christenings at Family Search . org in Guilford, Maine. I will update Martha and include her ancestry when I find time. It appears this gives this tree a second line to Robert Hibbert (Hibbart, Hibbard.....) of England, Salem and Beverly. Robert is an ancestor of Princess Diana of Wales.
114p Nehemiah Aldrich
Birth: Dec. 7, 1785 Uxbridge, MA., B/R no mother's maiden name; M/R of parents w/parents names; George Aldrich Genealogy w/parents; D/R parents "[David] and Anna", age 89. p.o.b."Uxbridge"; 1870 Census of Belchertown, MA., age "85", in home of William Aldrich age 38.
Marriage int.: Jan 31, 1806 Uxbridge, MA., M/Int. Uxbridge, MA.; Grave Stone "Polly Aldrich" "wife of Nehemiah"; S132 married "Nehemiah Aldrich".
Death: Dec 17, 1875 Springfield, MA., D/R age 89, "death by fall".
Additional Sources Include: From a secondary web source, the Will of #228; S144
Comments: Nehemiah's father was named Nehemiah too. "David" is shown as father on the D/R of this # 114 Nehemiah's D/R. The age of death on the D/R fits Nehemiah's Birth date. Either "David" was a nickname or middle name for his father or it's an error. This Nehemiah had a brother named David. I suspect # 228p may have been aka David. It appears that this # 114p Nehemiah married second Huldah Green of Wales, MA. in 1829 as Wales shows a M/I record, and Corbin Belchertown VR's shows Nehemiah and Huldah named a son "William Morse" born May 14, 1833.
115p Polly Morse

116p Jacob Mathews
Birth: March 18, 1774 most likely in Allenstown, N.H. or possibly New Durham, S133, "Mathes" Genealogy, with parents; 1860 Census, St. Albans, ME., living on same farm as son Joel, age 86, p.o.b. N.H.; 1850 Census, St. Albans, ME., living on same farm as son Joel, age 75 p.o.b. N.H.
Marriage: Feb 25, 1803 Industry, ME., S133; M/R from Rootsweb; S134; M/R Maine Marriages, 1771 - 1907 from Family Search . org shows Feb 25, and Feb 12 which is probably an intention, both in Farmington, Franklin, Maine w/Withes and Withey; 1850/60 Census of Saint Albans, ME. "Joel Mathews" and "Hannah"
Death: after 1860 Census Saint Albans, ME.
Additional sources: 1830 Census Saint Albans, ME., 1820 Census Madison, ME.; 1810 Census Mount Vernon, ME.
Comments: Jacob and Hannah were Grandparents of Gov. Llewellyn Powers of Maine, 1897 - 1901. Jacob's land in Industry, Me. was next to the land of Zoah Withee, father of Hannah.
117p Hannah Withee
Birth: about 1785/6 N.H., S134 w/parents; S133 w/parents; 1850 Census Saint Albans, ME., age 65 p.o.b. N.H.; 1860 Census Saint Albans, ME., age 74, p.o.b. N.H.; 1870 Census Saint Albans, Me., age 84, p.o.b. N.H.
Marriage: see spouse above
Death: Oct 3, 1873 aged about 88 years from S134; Same date, St. Albans, Maine from deaths and burials 1841 - 1910 Family search . org
118p Joseph Noble
Birth: probably before 1790, NEHGR 1941 pge 31 w/parents; 1830 Census Pittsfield, ME., in
the 40 - 50 age bracket., also on this census page is Jonathan Powers brother of # 119; 1820
Census Canaan in the 26 - 45 age bracket w/ 3 daughters under 10, and one female in the
26 - 45 age bracket matching Canaan records (26 years for # 119), last child a son not quite
born yet.
Marriage: probably in Canaan, ME. before 1814, Canaan Family original images record of
Joseph Noble, no maiden name for "Betsey his wife", first and last children shown born in
Canaan, middle two children including "Mary Elizabeth Noble" born in Fairfield, ME., First
child shown born in 1814; S116, "Betsey Powers, married Joseph Noble".
Death: 1830 or later. Seen in the 1830 Census of Pittsfield, ME.; Wife Elizabeth may be already living with her brother in the 1840 Saint Albans Census, as a female fits her age bracket, and Jonathan is yet to be married; She is living with her brother Jonathan in the 1850 Census of Saint Albans, ME.
Additional Sources: S147
Comments: I will proceed with the assumption that Joseph in the NEHGR 1941 pge 31 is this
Joseph Noble, son of John. The only other likely father of Joseph would be John's brother
Benjamin who had one son Joseph's age, but it is not likely that he was also named Joseph.
119p Elizabeth Powers
Birth: abt 1794/5 quite possibly in Canaan, ME., S116 w/parents; 1810 Census Canaan shows
Wid. Peggy Powers w/2 children between 10 and 15 yrs. of age, one male and one female, no
doubt Elizabeth and brother Jonathan. Elizabeth later lives with Jonathan and their mother Widow Peggy (Margaret Hood) Powers after Joseph Noble apparently dies; 1850 and 1870 Census of Saint Albans along with 1860 Census of Exeter confirm her age; 1850 Census of Saint Albans includes her mother Margaret (Hood) Powers.
Marriage: see spouse above
Death: 1870 or later. She is seen living in the same house as her daughter in the 1870 Saint
Albans, ME. Census.

120p John Lisk
Birth: probably Northern Ireland
Marriage: probably Northern Ireland. John and Sarah are seen as parents on D/R of a sister
named Margaret (Lisk) Johnston of brother # 60.
Death: unknown
121p Sarah Warrison? Marrison? Morrison?
Birth: probably in Northern Ireland
Marriage: see spouse above
Death: unknown
Comments: "Warrison?" should be correct as found on D/R of Margaret (Lisk) Johnston a
sister of # 60. A Blog shows "Herron" as her last name. One or the other could be an error or possibly one name is from a previous marriage. Transcription errors are extremely easy to make.
122q Francis Johnston
Birth: Unknown possibly Northern Ireland
Marriage: Unknown but possibly to Catherine Wauhing or Catherine McKindrey
Death: Unknown possibly Northern Ireland
Source for # 122 and # 123: A Blog, and D/R of a possible brother of # 61 which shows
Francis and Catherine Wauhing. "Wauhing" is difficult to read. "McKindrey" from Blog.
123q Catherine (McKindrey? or "Wauhing"?)

Death: Unknown possibly Northern Ireland
