Brief bio: Dr. Mayank Mittal is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Madras and an Editorial Board Member of Scientific Reports (Nature Portfolio). He earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State University, USA, in 2009, after which he worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at MSU and as a Senior Engineer at Caterpillar and Generac Power Systems in the United States. Holding MS degrees in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, he brings multidisciplinary expertise in engines, electric and hybrid powertrain systems, and their design and control strategies. He serves as a Technical Advisor and Mentor to Verdojah Technologies, a clean-mobility startup, supporting embedded control systems, sensor integration, and closed-loop control architectures. His research focuses on sustainable energy solutions through advanced combustion systems, optical engine diagnostics, and electric and hybrid vehicle technologies, including alternative fuels, low-temperature combustion, engine and component modeling, and hardware-in-the-loop simulations.
