Research and Professional Interests

I´m a veterinary pathologist interested in all aspects of wildlife diseases, with special emphasis on the effect of environmental change in the immune system of wild animals and infectious diseases dynamics.

Through the use of pathology, I want to provide relevant data about specific tissular reactions to pathogens, the role of immunity and natural individual variation in the presentation and severity of diseases. This information is very important in order to understand from the molecular to ecosystem level the role that diseases play in nature.

The study of wildlife diseases is critical to protection of animal, environmental and most important of all, human health. One of my main career goals is to promote the increase of knowledge in the field of conservation medicine, especially in South America, since knowledge is the best medicine.
