More about me...

Who am I?

I am a Professor at the U of S with a dual membership in the Department of Veterinary Biomedical Sciences and the Department of Biology. My expertise and research interests lay in behavioural, cognitive and evolutionary ecology in general, along with understanding how environmental change (both natural and anthropogenic) affects the ecology of predator-prey interactions.

STATEMENT OF DIVERSITY

I have long been committed to diversity and am acutely aware of the barriers that visible minorities and women face in science. My engagement to increase the number of women in science takes root in the preK-12 program, where I try to introduce children, in particular girls, to the wonders of science and the role of women in science. I have organized and participated in workshops and discussions to guide early career women scientists, raising awareness and advocating against the implicit biases women are still facing today. I also serve as a mentor for a number of undergrad women at the University.

As a supervisor, I thrive to maintain a welcoming, supporting and diverse research group. I always provide opportunities for women, visible minority and people with diverse sexual or religious orientations, taking chances when standard assessment tools do not take into account the struggles, limitations and lack of opportunity that one might face when navigating a non-privileged life.
