F. Normal Probability Distributions
Normal Probability Distributions
This Unit focuses on normal distributions of continuous probabilities. The graphs will be symmetric and bell-shaped. There are two types of normal distributions. A Standard Normal Distribution has a mean of zero and its standard deviation is equal to 1.
A Normal Distribution graph has a mean that is not zero and the standard deviation can be any number. For these problems, it will always be necessary to use a z-score conversion formula to convert the mean back to zero and the standard deviation back to one. This formula is found on page 264 of your textbook and it is reviewed in the PowerPoints.
You will be using Table A-2 on most of these problems. This table is found in your textbook and it is also located on a detachable Formula/Table card included with the book. The PowerPoint lessons for this unit contain videos of each problem. Make sure you have Table A-2 accessible when you view the videos. There is an illustration on page 255 of your textbook that shows how to read Table A-2.
