There is a very interesting book called "Geometry of Information Retrieval" by Keith van Rijsbergen (aka C.J.van Reijsbergen) published by Cambridge University Press in 2004. Astonishing as it may appear at first sight the author examines the problems of information retrieval using the formalism and nomenclature of quantum mechanics. My colleague Dr. Vasudev Varma of the International Institute of Information Technology at Hyderabad gave me the book and asked if I could give an elective course based on the book. It took me some time to get round to it. Gave a course last semester. The students were all from B.Tech. courses without a proper background in Linear Algebra. So it took me some time to cover the essential theory of Hilbert spaces in the finite dimensional case. All I got was one hour at the end for touching on Information Retrieval.
Am attaching here two files. One on Finite Dimensional Hilbert Spaces and one on Applications to Information Retrieval.
