About My Name

I am a Chinese living in New York. Before coming to the U.S. I lived in Tokyo for 5 years.

In Chinese my name is 马腾飞(Ma, Tengfei), which uses the simplified Chinese characters. "Ma" means horse and "Tengfei" means to jump and fly. So I am a flying horse:)

In Japanese it is written as 馬騰飛 and pronounced as マトウヒ(ma touhi). The three characters are same as the corresponding traditional Chinese characters.

Travel

I enjoyed traveling all over the world with my wife. By far we have been to all continents except Antarctica, and we are still trying to leave our footprints in more and more countries. I like photography but do not often post my photos online.

Yellowstone, USA

Grand Teton, USA

The Wave, USA

Only 20 persons are allowed to enter the Wave per day. Fortunately we were picked up in the ticket lottery.

The two boards:

  • UP: A production team which always have sufficient food and drinks

  • Down: Serve the people

Production team is a concept in the period of cultural revolution. I think the boards expressed two basic aspects in Chinese people's life.

Sketches

When I lived in Mitaka, Tokyo, I studied drawing sketches from Ms. Itsuko Kameda, an unknown decorative painter and a weird person who does not even have a TV or smartphone. I am not talented, but I still enjoyed sketching very much. One thing my teacher taught me is that sketching is a totally different way to observe the world. The header image of my homepage is the drawing about Escher ball from me, my wife and Ms. Kameda.
