ZP4 Outputs

The ZP4 address correction engine can input an incomplete or ambiguous address, match it to the ZIP + 4®, DPV®, LACS^Link®, Suite^Link™, RDI™, eLOT®, and Geo databases, and generate the outputs listed below. ZP4's documentation explains these outputs in more detail. Various tools included with ZP4 allow you to manipulate these outputs in a variety of ways (such as automatically updating every record in a file). You can also export raw data directly from the ZIP + 4 database.

Address (final): the recommended, standardized form of the input address as used by ZP4 to try and find a match in the ZIP + 4 database. If the input address is "SUITE A 123 MAIN STREET", then Address (final) would be "123 MAIN ST APT A".

Address (delimited): the same as Address (final), except vertical bars delimit the seven subfields that form the standardized address. If the input address is "SUITE A 123 MAIN STREET", then Address (delimited) would be "123||MAIN|ST||APT|A".

Address (long): the longer unabbreviated form of the address when Address (final) is required to be 30 characters or less.

Address (parsed): the same as Address (delimited), except tab characters are used instead of vertical bars.

Address leftovers: any words from the original input address that were not used in Address (final). If the original address is "100 MAIN ST PAYABLES" then Address (final) would be "100 MAIN ST" and Address leftovers would be "PAYABLES".

Address line 2 (final): private mailbox information (such as "PMB 123") if the input address used a PMB designation and the input address occupied two lines.

Barcode digits: the string of twelve digits corresponding to a delivery point barcode, which are the nine digits from the ZIP® (final) field, followed by the two digits from the Extension for DPBC field, followed by the Check digit for DPBC.

Barcode characters: the same as Barcode digits, but with colons (:) before and after the string of digits, so appropriate "framing" bars will automatically appear when the data is printed or displayed with our postal barcode font.

Barcode unchecked: the same as Barcode digits, but without the ending checksum digit.

BDI: the character "Y" if the address is a business as opposed to a residence.

BDI guess: a number from 0 to 100 indicating the percentage of business deliveries in the carrier route for the address.

Building/firm: the building or company name on file in the ZP4 database for Address (final).

Carrier route (final): the four-character carrier route number found in the ZIP + 4 database for Address (final).

Carrier route rate: a one-character sort/merge code indicating if carrier route presort rates are available in the ZIP Code™ for Address (final).

Certified: the single character "C", if a ZIP + 4 code for the input address was located in the ZIP + 4 database.

Check digit for DPBC: the single check digit for the delivery point bar code number for Address (final) and ZIP (final).

Check digit for ZIP + 4: the single check digit for the ZIP + 4 bar code number for ZIP (final).

City (final): the corrected and standardized form of the input city.

City (preferred): the recommended city name to use for Address (final).

City (long): the longer unabbreviated form of the city name if City (preferred) is abbreviated.

City state ZIP (final): City (final), State (final) and ZIP (final) combined in one field, separated by blanks.

City state ZIP (preferred): City (preferred), State (final) and ZIP (final) combined in one field, separated by blanks.

Company (final): the company name on file in the ZP4 database when ZIP (final) is a unique ZIP + 4 code assigned to a specific company.

Congress code: the Congressional district number for Address (final).

County code: the county number (IFIPS code) for Address (final).

County name: the name of the county Address (final) is located in.

Date certified: eight digits in the form YYYYMMDD indicating the year, month and day Address (final) was processed.

Default match: the character "Y" if a match was made to a high-rise or rural route default record, or to a street record forced by no default high-rise record being available.

Delivery point code: a single-letter code indicating if Address (final) matched a highrise, firm, Post Office™ box, rural route, or general delivery record.

DPV CMRA: the character "Y" if the matched address is a Commercial Mail Receiving Agency (CMRA), such as Mail Boxes Etc.

DPV confirm: the character "Y" if the input record is a valid mailing address listed in the DPV database.

DPV footnotes: a string of two-character standard Postal Service™ codes indicating the quality of the match to the DPV database.

DPV violation: the character "Y" if the input record is a synthetic address and has caused a violation.

Dropped +4: the +4 code suppressed from ZIP (final) when a ZIP + 4 coded address does not DPV confirm.

Early warning: the character "Y" if the input street and ZIP Code were found in the Early Warning System database.

Edition: six characters in the form YYYYMM indicating the year and month of the ZIP + 4 database used to scrub the address.

ELOT sequence: a four-digit sequence number used for sorting enhanced line of travel mail.

ELOT sort: a one-character code to indicate if the eLOT sort sequence is ascending or descending.

Error code: a single whole number from 1 to 14, identifying the error group of the "most significant" error in the input address.

Error codes (combined): a list of all Error codes for the input address.

Error message: the text message corresponding to the first error number in Error numbers (detailed).

Error numbers (detailed): a list of all error numbers for the input address.

Errors (binary): a string containing only "0" or "1" characters, with each character corresponding to a possible error. "00000000000000101000000000100000000000100" indicates errors 9.2, 10.2, 11.9, and 14.2.

Extension for DPBC: the two-character numeric extension to ZIP (final) needed to form a delivery point bar code number.

Extension plus check: equivalent to Extension for DPBC joined with Check digit for DPBC.

Fragment (apt): just the apartment number found in Address (final).

Fragment (house): just the house number found in Address (final).

Fragment (PMB number): any private unit number found in Address (final).

Fragment (PMB prefix): the string "PMB" if a PMB designation was used, or "#" if "PMB" wasn't used, when Address (final) contains a private unit number.

Fragment (postdir): just the postdirection found in Address (final).

Fragment (predir): just the predirection found in Address (final).

Fragment (street): just the street name found in Address (final).

Fragment (suffix): just the street suffix found in Address (final).

Fragment (unit): just the unit abbreviation found in Address (final).

Geo block: the Census Bureau block number for the ZIP + 4 code in ZIP (final).

Geo from lat: the starting latitude for the ZIP + 4 code in ZIP (final).

Geo from long: the starting longitude for the ZIP + 4 code in ZIP (final).

Geo ID: the Census Bureau number uniquely identifying the address information that was matched to the ZIP + 4 code in ZIP (final) and used to generate all the corresponding Geo... output fields.

Geo multiple: a warning code indicating ZIP (final) matched multiple Census Bureau records.

Geo side: a code indicating on which sides of the street the ZIP + 4 code in ZIP (final) can be found.

Geo to lat: the ending latitude for the ZIP + 4 code in ZIP (final).

Geo to long: the ending longitude for the ZIP + 4 code in ZIP (final).

Geo tract: the Census Bureau tract number for the ZIP + 4 code in ZIP (final).

Geo warn: a warning code indicating the Census Bureau's standardization of the addresses for ZIP (final) were not an exact match to the Postal Service standardization of the same addresses.

LACS flag: the character "L" if the ZIP + 4 database record contains addresses that can be converted by LACS^Link.

LACS indicator: a character code indicating if ZP4 was able to convert the input address using the LACS^Link database.

LACS return: Postal Service codes corresponding to LACS indicator.

NoDoor: the character "Y" if the mail carrier can't knock on a door (for example, the building can't be physically accessed due to a long driveway or gated residence).

NoStat: the character "Y" if the address is known but does not yet receive mail (for example, new construction that does not yet have a mail box).

Nothing: always empty. This output can be used to delete obsolete data.

PMB number: any private mailbox number found in Address (final) prefixed with "PMB".

PMB prefix: the string "PMB", if Address (final) contains a private mailbox number prefixed with "PMB".

Pointers: the state, city, street, and address record numbers where ZP4 ended the search for the input address. Useful for programmers extracting records from the database.

Private mailbox: the PMB prefix and PMB number, separated by a blank.

RDI: the character "Y" if the address is a residence as opposed to a business.

RDI guess: a number from 0 to 100 indicating the percentage of residential deliveries in the carrier route for the address.

Read counts: a list of numbers indicating the number of times ZP4 had to retrieve records from the ZP4 database while processing the input address.

Read counts (disk): a list of numbers indicating the number of times ZP4 had to retrieve records from the ZP4 database while processing the input address, but the record was not in ZP4's memory cache, so an actual disk read was necessary.

Record type code: a single-letter code to indicate alternate, alias, and ZIPMOVE records.

Search result: one or two fragments of data from the ZIP + 4 database indicating where ZP4 stopped searching when an error occurred.

Search time: the number of milliseconds ZP4 spent trying to find the input address.

State (final): the corrected and standardized form of the input state.

Street (base): the original "base" form of the street in Address (final) before any required alias conversion is performed.

Street box: the character "Y" if a street address is actually a PO box at a post office.

Throwback: the character "Y" if the address is a street address but the delivery is actually made to the recipient's PO box address.

Suite^Link: a one-or-two character code indicating if ZP4 was able to use Suite^Link to automatically append secondary (suite) information to a business address.

Uncertified: the character "U" if a ZIP + 4 code for the input address was not located in the ZIP + 4 database.

Unsecured: the character "Y" if the address has no security. (For example, mail carriers can't leave packages due to security concerns, or the address is a business sometimes closed on delivery days, or a storefront with no mail receptacle.)

Unique ZIP: the character "Y" if ZIP (five-digit) is a "unique" ZIP Code assigned to a specific organization.

Unused address field: the input record field number of whichever address field ZP4 did not use to find a match in the ZIP + 4 database, if the input record has dual address fields.

Unused address text: whichever input address ZP4 did not use to find a match in the ZIP + 4 database, if the input record has dual address fields.

Urbanization (final): the Puerto Rico urbanization name on file in the ZP4 database for Address (final).

USPS® address code: a single-letter code indicating if Address (final) matched a street, highrise, firm, Post Office box, rural route, or general delivery record.

Vacant: the character "Y" if the address is vacant.

Version: the version number of the address correction engine.

Z4 info: codes (such as "ANA" for alpha-numeric-alpha values like "D3B") indicating additional allowable formats for the house and apartment numbers beyond those identified in the ZIP+4 database for the address.

ZIP (final): the corrected and standardized ZIP + 4 form of the input ZIP Code.

ZIP (five-digit): the first five characters of ZIP (final).

ZIP (four-digit add-on): the seventh through tenth characters of ZIP (final).
