Sectional & State Meets

Masconomet Swim and Dive swimmers can qualify for States and/or Sectionals if they satisfy the cut times for the corresponding individual or relay event. Since separate Sectional meets are held for boys and girls, relay teams must be single-sex and have competed together as a team when they achieved the qualifying cut time. The times are taken from any of the dual meets during the season or during the NEC championship.

Sectionals are multi-team meets that have different sessions based on region and gender. There are three regions for Sectionals: North, South/Central and West. The Masconomet Swim and Dive Team belongs to the North region along with 28 other schools such as St. John's Prep, Manchester Essex, Lincoln Sudbury, North Andover and others. At each Sectionals session, the top eight finishers of each event (after all heats have been swum) receive awards.

Individual swimmers and relay teams can still qualify for States if they satisfy the cut times after Sectionals. States are also multi-team meets that have separate sessions for each division (Division 1 and Division 2) and for each gender. The Masconomet Swim and Dive Team belongs to Division 1.

Both Sectionals and States follow the same Varsity order of events. A swimmer can only enter up to 4 maximum events at either Sectionals or States: two individual events plus two relay events or three relay events with one individual event. If a swimmer qualifies for more than the maximum number of individual or relay events allowed, it will be up to the discretion of the coach and the swimmer to decide which events to enter based on the best possible results.
