The Maryland Adapted Physical Education Consortium (MAPEC) officially formed in the 2009-2010 school year, building on years of collaborative work by Maryland's adapted physical educators. Key figures in the organization's development include April Tripp (Retired, Baltimore County Public Schools), Linda Webbert (Baltimore County Public Schools), Cyndi Naylor (Baltimore County Public Schools), Mike Mason (Retired, Maryland State Department of Education's Specialist for Physical Education), and John Perna (Retired, Frederick County Public Schools).

Empower Teachers and Professional
Provide opportunities and resources for education, guidance, and encouragement to empower other professionals to meet the unique challenges of individuals with disabilities in the areas of health, physical education, athletics, recreation, and dance.
Promote Best Practices
Promote well researched and thoughtfully developed “Best Practices” in physical education for individuals with disabilities throughout the state of Maryland.
Advocate for Quality PE
Encourage the promotion and development of quality physical education programs for individuals with disabilities in schools throughout the state of Maryland.
Teach and Share with Future Professional
Encourage the promotion and development of quality professional programs of adapted physical education in higher education.
