Loosely based on the town of Lüneburg in northern Germany. In the medieval old town, Gothic–style buildings frame the main square.
Mining has been a source of wealth over the centuries as well as timber. Mining can be seen in the distant hills as well as a sawmill near the loco workshops.
The town has a minor station on the main line, so the rail traffic varies between Era III to the latest high-speed ICE trains as well as the odd historic trains.
The town centre is serviced by buses from the station on a Faller Car System.

The centrepiece of this layout is the Gemunden Viaduct, an impressive 2.5km long structure on the new Wurzburg-Fulda high-speed line. This line was the first high-speed line constructed in Germany and opened at the end of May 1988. The viaduct crosses the town of Gemunden, as well as the river Main.
Intercity Express trains (ICE) ply this route on their way to Hanover, Berlin and Hamburg in one direction, or Nuremburg and Munich in the other. They travel at 250kph on these lines, but are permitted to travel at 280kph if running late. The freight trains on this line are permitted to travel at up to 160kph. Intercity trains (IC), which run between Frankfurt and Wurzburg, also use this part of the high-speed line.

Children who may never have had the experience of driving a model railway can have the opportunity of running a train on the layout.
