10/ Field of training and research experience

During my PhD studies I have received training for the design of experiments for Electroencephalography (EEG) and Magnetoencephalography (MEG) mainly for the somatosensory system, and the analysis of the recorded signals with signal processing methods. I was recipient of a Marie Curie training site fellowship at the Institute of Advanced Biomedical Technologies (ITAB), University of Chieti, Italy in collaboration with AFaR – CRCCS “Isola Tiberina”, Rome, where I have worked primarily on Short-Term Plasticity of the primary Somatosensory Cortex studied with MEG. In this study we have worked on the temporal dynamics of plastic representational changes after a finger webbing paradigm on healthy volunteers studying the variation of representational changes in 6 hours. Moreover, I have worked in the detection of high frequency rhythms of the brain, seen at the time-frequency plane, using the wavelet transform. From October 2005, I have worked for the implementation of an EEG-based Brain-Computer Interface designing a protocol for rhythmic finger movements and detection of movement intention through imagination of motor action. The recorded signals were further analyzed with Event Related Synchronization-Desynchronization, and bivariate synchronization measures like the phase dynamics approach based on the wavelet transform and others based on multivariate autoregressive methods (Directed transfer function, coherence, partial directed coherence etc).
