Award-winning Ojibwe author and poet Marcie R. Rendon tells a tale based on a true story about a wild bison calf relocated in an effort to restore bison to their previous numbers. Napesni (nah-PAY-shnee) is an honorable Lakota name that translates to "one who is not afraid" or "fearless". Learn how Napesni earns the nickname Renegade after joining the Red Lake Reservation Buffalo Herd.

When the body of a murdered Ojibwe man is found discarded in a cornfield, Wheaton asks Cash for help. The residents of the nearby Red Lake Reservation have good reason to distrust outsiders, and Cash may be the only one who can get them to talk. But racial tensions run deep along the Red River, and soon Cash isn't only searching for justice: she's fighting for her life.
