PechaKucha is a digital presentation style that can be used to tell a story or present information or share your passion or even inspire. It is a slide show of 20 images shown on the screen for 20 seconds each. That means it is 400 seconds long. The slides change automatically. You tell your story (true event) or explain your topic as the slides are presented. Frequently the oral presentation is not read from a script but told. No bullet points. No boring presentations. Large vibrant images on the screen and passionate, knowledgeable speakers and storytellers.
PechaKucha was created in Japan in 2003 by renowned architects, Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham. The word “PechaKucha” is Japanese for “chit chat.” www.pechakucha.com/about PechaKucha is a registered trademark of PechaKucha, Inc
My PechaKucha topics included: Everybody Says So (Scottish Food), Where's the Moose (Nature and bonding with teenage daughter), Toilets Rule My Life (the funny things that happen) and Baby Love. Linda's PechaKucha a sample of Linda's PechaKucha's for adults
Though adapting the PechaKucha format means it may no longer technically be a PechaKucha, teachers are adapting it to the classroom setting by changing the number of slides or the time slides are on the screen. It's a great way for students to present biographies, country reports, about me, persuasive topics and many other curriculum connected assignments. Computer skills, research skills, presentation skills, public speaking all wrapped up in one.
I am available for online sessions with students or teachers. In person sessions should be available in 2023. I have presented/performed PechaKucha in person in New Haven and Bridgeport, CT and Albany New York. Online, I have tolds stories using PechaKucha through the Bridgeport organization and at the global International PechaKucha Day 2022. I am a retired teacher (25 years) with experience in library media grades preK through high school. In addition, I taught gifted education and in the classroom.

Ignite Presentations are another digital presentation you might consider. Speakers are given 5 minutes and 20 slides with images that auto-advance every 15 seconds.

Creation:
You can use PowerPoint to create your PechaKucha or other digital storytelling.
If you don't have PowerPoint, you can use Google Slides. Warning: if you use Google Slides, there is no 20 second automatic setting. There is a "get around" solution for this which I can explain or just use a 15 second timing (which makes it not a officially a PechaKucha).
Create your PechaKucha on the PechaKucha Create site.
