Marcelo holds a BA, MSc, and PhD in Electrical Engineering from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio), focusing on Statistics, Optimization, and Control Theory. His research area encompasses econometrics and data science, with a particular interest in the intersection of econometric/statistical theory and advanced machine learning and artificial intelligence tools. He concentrates on theoretical developments and empirical applications in finance, macroeconomics, forecasting, and public policy evaluation, among other fields. In 2022, Marcelo was elected a Fellow of the Society of Financial Econometrics (SoFiE) and currently serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Financial Econometrics and the Quarterly Review of Economics and Finance. Previously, Marcelo also held the position of Associate Editor for the Journal of the American Statistical Association (Theory and Methods), the Journal of Business and Economic Statistics, and the International Journal of Forecasting, among others. Marcelo has published over 50 papers in international peer-reviewed journals, including the Annals of Statistics, the Journal of the American Statistical Association, the Journal of Econometrics, the Journal of Business and Economic Statistics, Econometric Theory, the International Journal of Forecasting, and the Journal of Banking and Finance.Â
