About

Welcome to my webpage!

I work as an Assistant Professor Serra Hunter at the Department of Applied Economics at  Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. I received my Ph.D in Economics from University of Santiago de Compostela in 2014 and MSc. in Economics from Universitat Pompeu Fabra in 2007 and from University of Santiago de Compostela in 2009.

Before joining DEA at UAB, I worked as an Assistant Professor of Economics at Universitat Internacional de Catalunya and as an Economist in the Directorate for Employment, Labor and Social Affairs at the OECD on topics related to pensions, population aging, inequalities, health and the labor market. I have been also a visiting scholar at the Department of Population Health Sciences at University of Wisconsin-Madison and a visiting student at Utrecht University School of Economics.

My general research interests are in the areas of health economics, labor economics, economics of aging, and applied microeconometrics.

Broadly speaking, my research focuses on the so-called SES-health gradient, and mainly in two ways:  1) by studying the interrelations between individuals' health and labor market outcomes in adulthood, and 2) by investigating the origins of this gradient with a focus on individuals' early life period.

More specifically, my current research papers study: 1) the intergenerational transmission in health care use, 2) the impact of pollution on child health, and 3) the impact of unemployment insurance generosity on health status.

Over the last years, I have been also doing policy analysis for the OECD (Health Division and WISE Centre) on topics related to the provision of long-term care and social services in Spain, and the economic costs of childhood poverty in Europe.
