Mangawhai Travellers' Rest , at 4 Insley Street

in the centre of Mangawhai Village and is probably THE MOST CONVENIENT LOCATION in Mangawhai being across the road from Mangawhai Super Value Supermarket which is open from 8a.m. - 9p.m. every day. While you can probably get most of what you need here ( there's only the Pakiri camp store between Mangawhai and Puhoi ) the new New World supermarket is slightly off the trail at the new Mangawhai Central commercial centre between Mangawhai Heads and Mangawhai Village.
Kia ora ! ( 27th of October 2025 )

For SOBOs :
Getting to Mangawhai Village will give you a good start for your next day's walk out to the Te Arai and Pakiri beach section.
This is THE LAST stop in the Northland section. And your last big beach section.
The border of Auckland is only 3 kms south of here - and starts where the tar-seal on Black Swamp Road ends.
At Travellers' Rest you can camp out in the wild-flower and fruit tree-filled garden ($15), sleep in the outside shed ( $25 ) or we can set up a mattress in the music room ($25 ) or use the upstairs double room ($50 for two ). Free Wifi (fibre-optic 80mbps ), device charging, laundry, shower, use of the kitchen/refrigerator - N.B. it's a vegetarian kitchen.
Lisa and I ( Alan ) are travellers and are used to communal living and enjoy the energy walkers bring and you're welcome to hang out and relax in our home - a two storeyed cottage built in 1914 - when there were only boats and no cars.
