研究分野・テーマ :AREAS OF CURRENT RESEARCH

  • In our laboratory, our topics are mainly related to SDGs 6 (Clean water and sanitation) and SDGs 14 (Life below water). We are focusing on the conservation of watershed water quality considering the connection of river-coastal system (Satoumi), the development of sustainable water environment using machine learning and big data, and the application of nanotech and quantum chemical calculations in water treatment.

1. Application of water chemistry for conservation of sustainable aquatic ecosystem

  • Biogeochemistry of nutrients (nitrogen, phosphorous) and trace metals (iron, copper, zinc, molybdenum) and its interaction with phytoplankton growth and metabolism

  • Transformation kinetics and elemental cycles for biologically important trace metals (e.g., iron, copper, zinc, molybdenum) in inland, coastal and marine environments (for assessment of aquatic primary production

学歴と職歴:EDUCATION and EMPLOYMENT

I earned my Ph.D from Tohoku University (Civil & Environmental Engineering) Japan in 2007 with work on trace metal transformation kinetics in natural waters, particularly the impact of superoxide in Fe-redox kinetics. Since the completion of my ph.D thesis, I had continued work on the related research for 3 years between Tohoku University and the Water Research Centre at the University of New South Wales (Sydney, Australia) as a research fellow of the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS, PD). After the work at the WRC full time in early 2010 with a second JSPS fellowship program (Postdoctoral Fellowship for Research Abroad), I moved to assistant professor position at Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan. Since 2020, I have been working at Tokyo Institute of Technology as associate professor. My research interest is water science and engineering including characterization of affected and natural aqueous systems and water and wastewater engineering.
