In an age where refrigerators are connected to the internet and vacuum cleaners are robots, why should chairs just be used to sit? As an engineer, you are hired by a specific client and your job is to customize a sitting experience just for them. I created model clients using 1/8" thick plywood and duct tape. For each joint, I first put duct tape across the top (the inside bend of the joint) so that it held the two pieces tightly together. I then flipped over the stick figure and bent the joint to the front, then put some duct tape over it from the back, pushing the duct tape into the seam as I straighten out the figure flat again.
I also taped on a name and three character traits to each figure to give the students a jumping off point for their design, but they were also encouraged to make up additional facts about their client.
