I have had the good fortune of working with many wonderful colleagues through the years, and have had several supervisors that I've considered as mentors- they taught me a lot and I have a great deal of respect for them.
Here are a couple of kudos I've received from them. I have edited them just a bit.
From a former co-worker:
I like working with all you guys, you’re a bunch of nice guys who know their shit and I want to be a part of the team.
From a performance review at County of Alameda:
Doug Evans
Senior Software Analyst
During the last year Doug worked as a subject area specialist in Pitney Bowes products, CA DB2 Tools, disaster recovery, Linux, WebSphere, and project manager for the San Mateo County payroll application, proof of concept, hosted on mainframe.
Doug has consistently taken on new work, improved on solutions, communicated well with managers and team members. In the z/Linux area, Doug not only implemented OS and tools solutions, he also took the time to learm and became very productive in the WebSphere area.
Doug has become the backup support in ViewDirect, DASD support, z/OS, Printing, and VTAM. He has also achieved expertise in many of the areas, and is assisting the entire team to be more productive in areas such as software installs, getting mail to work with Java, new DB2 Tools installs, and SAN performance tuning. He has also well documented z/OS, DR, z/VM, and Linux, giving others a better understanding and easier job of supporting those products.
Doug has been a valuable staff member I can count on to volunteer for projects and get the work done. Even when Doug was occasionally out of the office either at a seminar or out sick, he made efforts to keep in touch and was extremely helpful on several occasions with z/OS and DR problems.
From a previous supervisor at Walker Interactive Systems that taught me a lot about Systems Programming:
Doug worked for me for about 7 years back in the 90s and was my right hand man in a technical services group.
Back then he was a whizz at coding, managed to put a couple OS's under his belt in short order, and was well liked by the users. I would highly recommend Doug.
It's been a while since we worked together, so I'm sure Doug has learned still more.
Doug was one of those rare finds and I'm sure he's only gotten better. No matter what I threw at him, he managed to learn and excel at it.
