Maia Linask is an Associate Professor of Economics at the Robins School of Business at the University of Richmond. She received her Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University. Her research examines the political economy of trade policy, the interaction of trade policy and product quality, and the interaction of trade policy and foreign direct investment. Her research has appeared in the Journal of International Economics, the Review of International Economics, Public Choice, and the Journal of Economic Education. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the International Trade & Finance Association.

Dr. Linask teaches students at both the beginning of the economics coursework (Principles of Microeconomics) and the culmination of their economics studies (International Trade, Economics Capstone Seminar). In order to help her students connect material to other disciplines and to interests and questions outside the classroom, her courses incorporate different models of community-based learning, from a student-guided visit to the Richmond Slave Trail to attendance at a Richmond Board of Education meeting. In 2022, she received the Bonner Center for Civic Engagement’s Community-Engaged Teaching Award.

Dr. Linask is committed to increasing diversity in the economics profession. With colleagues at the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond and Virginia Commonwealth University, she is an active member of the planning committee for the Diverse Economics Conference for undergraduate students. Now in its fifth year, the goal of the conference is to provide students with information on the range of career paths open to economics students and with resources to support them as they pursue those paths.
