Bio

Dr. Maher Atteya received his Ph.D. in Applied Chemistry as a major degree and Petroleum Engineering as a minor degree at Colorado School of Mines in 1994, and in 1990, he received a Master degree in chemistry from Kansas State University in Chemistry. In 1994 – 1995, he was a visiting professor at Colorado School of Mines. He did his post doctorate 1995 – 1997at University of Denver. He did receive two Distinguished Awards during his post-doctoral work at University of Denver. Furthermore, he finished “Diploma” equivalent to Master Degree in Chemical Engineering from Carl Schorlemmer Hochschule (now University of Halle – Germany).

Dr. Maher Atteya has been teaching for more than twenty-two years at Georgia Perimeter College, now Georgia State University. He did receive numerous honors and recognitions throughout his career: Best Senior Faculty Award 2017 and Best Teaching Faculty Award 2020.

Dr. Maher Atteya has developed flipped classroom models for the Survey of Chemistry I lecture. To his credit, he developed an online laboratory for CHEM 1151 course as well as a hybrid model of CHEM 1151 lab. He wrote lab manuals for General Chemistry 1 lab as well as for General Chemistry 2 lab. He is the co-advisor of the Perimeter College Science and Pre-Professional Chemistry clubs. He received NISOD Award for Excellence in Teaching in the years of 2005, 2008 and 2017.

Dr. Maher Atteya received the Clark Atlanta University Center of Nano Science and Technology Research Fellowship for 2-year Colleges 2010. He did conduct nano technology research at Clark Atlanta University Nano Technology Center. He also received Emory University PRISM Program Fellowship. In 2007, he received the Governor Excellent Teacher’s Fellowship of University System of Georgia. Furthermore, he did receive a Certificate of Achievement Connecting Teachers and Technology at Georgia Perimeter College – Clarkston Campus in 2009. Also, in 2009, he did receive the Quality Matter Certification for Online Peer Reviewers. In 2004, he was an editor of Central European Science Journal.

Dr. Maher Atteya did develop with other colleagues an Online Master Template for Survey of Chemistry 1 Online Lab in summer 2020 which was available to the rest of the faculty for their use. Dr. Maher Atteya has written several eBooks using the ALG grants (Alternative Learning of Georgia). These eBooks are: Survey of Chemistry 1 eBook, Survey of Chemistry 2 eBook and Principles of Chemistry 1 eBook as well as Principles of Chemistry 2 eBook. In addition, hand written eBooks also published.
