Hello Everyone!
My name is Pete Hurst, I was born and raised in Miami Florida the first 28 yrs of my life. I spent a lot of my childhood in the Florida Keys swimming in the Atlantic ocean with Stingrays and dolphins along with enjoying family time. I spent many years owning Qtr. horses & training million dollar Arabian show horses. I worked for a well known Lg animal veterinarian which allowed me to get closer to Bengal tigers than most would care too and make sure movie set animals were taken care of properly.
I moved to Idaho in 1995 after living in Atlanta Georgia for 10yrs. to go back to school. After getting my degree I moved to Seattle WA. but could not stay away from this awesome state. My teaching Job found me I did not find it; I started teaching at Magic Valley High School in 2004. Prior to attending the U of I, I worked for many years in the psychology field at psychiatric / drug rehab hospitals and residential treatment facilities and have found my experience to be useful in my teaching career.
My Education:
I received my Bachelors of Science in Education with minors in Geography and Forestry (Ecosystem/Wilderness management) from the University of Idaho. I hold endorsements in Geography (6-12), Mathematics (6-12), Natural Science (6-12) and Earth and Space Science (6-12).
My Interests/Hobbies:
I enjoy traveling and have been to most states in the lower 48. I have also been to Alaska and Canada. I lost track of the number of national parks I have been too but can’t wait to go back to most. Any suggestions as to where I should visit next? I have a love for the great outdoors and have been known in the past to put on my backpack and head out into the wilderness for days at a time. Love the off the beaten path out of the way places.
Instructional Philosophy:
It is my hope that students will find my classes interesting, fun, and challenging. I do my best to make all three happen. I believe that all students can learn. Students have different challenges in life which may alter the way each student learns, but ALL students can learn. I have a high expectation of my students and try to portray to them that no matter what his/her situation is he/she has the ability to learn.
