Factories and Mill Villages

In the fall of 1980 I wrote a series of newspaper articles on Randolph County Mill Villages for “The Maxi Page,” a newspaper supplement sponsored by the Randolph County Senior Adults Association and published in The Randolph Guide. The articles were originally written as the basis for individual community histories which were to be published as part of my research project, The Architectural History of Randolph County, North Carolina. Due to financial and space constraints, these histories were deleted from the final book. Only the stand-along histories of the county and Asheboro were published. For some of the communities, these remain the most recent histories.

The Franklinville entry is not republished here, as it has been extensively rewritten at the indicated link.
