Bio of "J" Kim a.k.a. Byoung-Jo Kim
A bio of mine that I use when publishing papers. Needs much work...
Byoung-Jo "J" Kim (IEEE S’93 - M’98) received his B.S. from Seoul National University, Korea in ’93, M.S. in ’95 and Ph.D. from Stanford University in ’97 all in Electrical Engineering.
I am an experienced researcher and engineer in all things wireless, cellular, mobile and the Internet.
I enjoy experimenting and tinkering as well as deep theoretical analysis, so my past works span the whole spectrum of simulations, prototyping, field trials, standards and pencil-paper thinking works.
I delight in working with others, managing small and fast teams, or working as a team member. I am also comfortable as an independent investigator and researcher, particularly when trying to define a problem and attack angles.
My current activities are focused on the next generation cellular network architecture, particularly on shedding the burdens of outdated and overly complex 3GPP architecture on cellular radio and core network. Also, I am working on understanding and mitigating extreme congestion in large crowded events in stadiums/malls/festivals and other such environments. Overall, latency has been a major interest of mine, such as where and when latency increases, how software/systems adapts and hides.
I maintain both eternal hope and heightened skepticism towards bold claims of major breakthroughs in my and other fields of knowledge.
