DELOREAN TIME MACHINE
This is an engineering open pre-build event. It means that you must prepare your device prior to the day of the olympics. There will be no time for you to build at the olympics. The device must be submitted for impound in the morning when you arrive.
Each school can only submit one device. There can be up to 4 students on the team working on this device.
Some schools will open this event to all members of their olympics team and then pick the best device to represent their school at MSEO.
EVENT DESCRIPTION
It is 1985. Doc Brown has just shown Marty McFly his DeLorean time machine, a vehicle with a “flux capacitor” that allows it to time travel. For the time traveling to be accurate, the DeLorean must be able to drive down a narrow runway and stop precisely before the barricades so that it doesn’t damage. Doc and Marty are enlisting the help of engineers like you to make this work.
Q. Could a ramp be used to propel the machine?
A. No. Ramps are not allowed. Vehicles must be released "level" (horizontal) to the ground.
Q. Can we use a clamp to allow the vehicle to release air to propel itself?
A. Yes, as long as the vehicle is released from a stationary and "level" position, any type of propelling mechanism excluding electronics and physical contact is allowed.
Q. If my vehicle uses a balloon, does it count toward the total dimensions?
A. If the vehicle uses a balloon, its dimensions will be measured as if the balloon is deflated.
Q. Can my vehicle exceed the dimensions at the end of the run? For instance, using a tether rope that is of a distance that is the length of the run.
