Below are several documents and websites about the Karen people that I researched in preparation for this book. Most of the sources below are organizations with specific goals and focus. Because of this it is necessary to collect information from multiple websites and it never hurts to try and corroborate that information with Karen immigrants.
Another factor to keep in mind is that like with any other culture there's no such thing as a one-stop source. Many different sources are required to gain a picture of the Karen. Also please keep in mind the Karen are no different than any other culture when it comes to facts about them - something true in one village might not be true in another. For example some Karen are Christian and have been for a long time, but others are not. Also exact numbers for population and other statistics may vary depending on the source but this is due to the government of Burma and the nature of recording refugees.
