PATCHES

PATCHES stands for the Parent Association for the treatment of Children's Health in an Educational Setting. This committee is comprised of parents of children with medical concerns including food allergies, asthma, diabetes and more. This committee is an informational gathering and disseminating group that makes parents aware of activities and events happening in the school that may affect their PATCHES children. We act as the liaison between the school administration, PTA, and Waverly parents to provide a safe environment for our PATCHES children.

If you have a child with a medical concern including food allergies and food sensitivities, please contact our school nurse, Grace Sarlo, at gsarlo2@lynbrook.k12.ny.us or 516-887-6587. Then, please contact our PATCHES coordinator, Lisa Ploof, lisaploof@icloud.com, or see the links below:

Patches Mission Statement

Remember to contact our school nurse and our PATCHES coordinator BEFORE bringing in food for any reason even if it is just for a specific class or grade. Our school nurse must give approval and our PATCHES coordinator will then notify the PATCHES parents to make sure that accommodations will be made to make sure all children will be safe.

Some examples of PTA/School sponsored events that involve food are:

Special Lunches

Halloween Carnival

Bake Sales

Health & Wellness Week

Field Day

It is also requested that all chairpersons and/or teachers in charge of such events contact our school nurse and PATCHES coordinator. This is best done during event planning (and prior to the printing of any event flyers) to insure that children with food allergies can be incorporated into the event.

Our current student body has several students with allergies to nuts, dairy, soy, etc. If you have a child with a food allergy or sensitivity, you MUST contact our school nurse. It is highly recommended that you contact our PATCHES COORDINATOR also.

THE LYNBROOK SCHOOL DISTRICT HAS ADOPTED A NEW ALLERGY POLICY. THIS HAS BECOME A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE IN ALL SCHOOLS. PLEASE READ.
