Legend has it Luther Bazoo walked through the park one evening. He wandered off the trail and found a disc at the river's edge. Luther had never thrown disc golf before.
Spotting tee pad 13, he stepped up for his first drive. Luther stepped and slipped, his disc turned right and was gone in the middle of the Grand River. Luther, however, couldn't stop.
With no discs to throw he waded into the water to retrieve his water disc.
Luther did not see the logs, he stumbled and splashed into the river. He struggled, he floundered. Luther was swept away with the current.
Luther's body was never found. People say that, although Luther drowned that night, he was so obsessed with his disc that he never crossed over to the other side. Luther's ghost still lurks near water looking for his disc and sometimes stealing other peoples' discs trying to replace his own. But no stolen disc was ever able to fill the void that he feels.
To this day, occasional disc golfers swear they have seen Luther wandering the brush just off fairways looking for discs to throw.
As a tribute to Luther, and as an attempt to appease him, disc golfers now mark their water discs with Luther's name on the inside rim. If a marked water disc lands in the water perhaps Luther will find it and see it's for him.
Then, just maybe, Luther will cease lurking the course even for a short time.
