My scientific activity has mainly been related to the wellposedness of initial boundary value problems. Nevertheless, my research interests span a variety of areas in differential equations of continuum mechanics. In particular,
fluid mechanics (with emphasis in non-Newtonian flows and friction effects at the boundary),
heat transfer (with emphasis in radiative effects at the boundary),
and their interconnection with other fields such as electromagnetism and electrochemistry.

December 1987 - December 1988: Instructor;
December 1988 - September 1992: Junior teaching assistant;
September 1992 - February 2000: Assistant lecturer;
February 2000 - January 2005: Assistant professor;
February 2005 - April 2009: Full tenure-track position, Assistant Professor.
Research position as a member of the Centro de Matemática e Aplicações Fundamentais of University of Lisbon (CMAFUL) in the area of partial differential equations, 1988-2008.
Participated as Organizing Commitee to the workshop Topics of Regularity on Partial Differential Equations, held in CMAFUL, November 8-10, 2001.
Collaborations
Visiting Professor in several academic institutions, including the Charles University (Prague, Czech Republic), the Czech Academy of Sciences (Praha, Czech Republic), Steklov Institute of Mathematics (St Petersburg Branch, Russia), University of Zurich (Zurich, Switzerland), University of Paris-Sud XI (Orsay, France), University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain), and Université de Pau et des Pays de L’Adour (Pau, France). In particular, The Euler International Mathematical Institute from 1.08.2000 till 1.09.2000
