The San County Board of Supervisors is considering changes to the Volunteer Reserve Firefighter Program (VRFF). See attached document for details)
The Lower Sweetwater Fire Protection District (LSFPD) supports the proposed changes to the (VRFF) program. However, the LSFPD Board has the following concerns with the ordinance as written.Â
1. Community Engagment Opportunities are not included in the proposed ordinance. There is a risk that this part of the program will go unfunded and be effectively eliminated. Community engagement is critical to the programs success.
2. Community Engagment Opportunities as described are limited to high-school students. The LSFPD Board would like to see the program to be made available to post High-School residents.
3. The LSFPD Board is concerned that the residents of Lincoln Acres will not have equalitable access to the VRFF program.
